I bought this book after having read another MHM book, which I really loved. So, I thought I should try this one too, and I certainly wasn't disappointed ! Not being American, I don't know the detailed history of the American Civil War. I originally thought I'd have endless questions about the civil war related parts of this book, but my only question after reading this is "how does the author manage to explain everything so well, while at the same time providing the readers with such a fascinating book" ? The story of the Curlew is terribly interesting, as is the modern research on this "beautiful iron boat", in which the author has played a very signigicant role. This book is the result of a very long and thorough research process, combined with the author's determination to provide a book that would be fully understood and truly enjoyed by the wider public. It is illustrated with beautiful photos and very skillfully drawn sketches that help even the most ignorant on the subject understand what this is all about. Its greatest quality is the fact that it will appeal to specialists and non-specialists alike. Anyone who is interested in the American civil war or maritime history will enjoy this book ! Highly recommended !
