4.0 out of 5 stars John Lurie is brilliant... but not seeing a dime from this
Even though this disc presents John Lurie's instrumental scores from the film instead of the full songs one might expect, it's still an amazing document from one of America's sharpest composers and saxophonists. Don't let the absence of the songs keep you from investing in this to hear Lurie's brilliant work. However, I also encourage you to buy Lurie's other recordings...

2.0 out of 5 stars Buy this ONLY if you liked the score...
I loved the songs from the movie. Like someone here said, it did make the movie better. Unfortunately, they did not release a "Various Artists" soundtrack, thus resulting in this "Score from..." album. Anyway, here is the list of the songs from the movie:

"Crash Into Me"
The Dave Matthews Band

"Stop By"
Rahsaan Patterson...

Not what I expected. The movie had an awesome soundtrack but none of those songs were included. Only one song was included...All Mixed Up, which is an excellent song. The rest of songs on the soundtrack are background music basically. Not worth the price.

Even though this disc presents John Lurie's instrumental scores from the film instead of the full songs one might expect, it's still an amazing document from one of America's sharpest composers and saxophonists. Don't let the absence of the songs keep you from investing in this to hear Lurie's brilliant work. However, I also encourage you to buy Lurie's other recordings with the Lounge Lizards and other ensembles. Why? Simple: John is not getting a single penny in royalties from this recording. In fact, the people who issued the disc now claim that the record label doesn't even exist, so it's not possible for Lurie to get remuneration. Kind of hard to believe when there's a physical copy of the CD awaiting the Amazon buyer. So do buy this disc, but also support Mr. Lurie in a way that will directly benefit him.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointed....but what could I expect., February 3, 1999

I bought this CD after falling in love with Lurie from the Get Shorty Soundtrack, and from the Fishing with John TV series. Unfortunately, I found that this album is almost entirely "movie music" which is fine if you're actually watching the film, but somehow lacks a context without the film. Heard the film was terrible, so I guess the context is about right. Only a few songs on this album are worth while, and they are not worth the price of admission.
