Editorial Reviews

After reading Exclusive, you won't look at the music business the same!" - Kwan, author of Street Dreams, Hoodlum and Eve

You can't put the book down and want to continue enjoying the ride - Radio Facts Magazine

Reads like an insider's game to the music business - Bellaonline

Exclusive gives a unique glimpse into the sometimes treacherous and cutthroat entertainment industry. - Urban Network Magazine.

From the Author

I published Mad Rhythms, an entertainment / hip hop magazine for 6 years. I drew from those experiences when writing Exclusive. One of the main characters is a journalist by the name of Tisha Ariel Nikkole. She loves being a writer, but she doesn't like all the flash and negativity that is often surrounded in the entertainment business. Tisha is very much like ME!

I enjoyed being a hip hop journalist, but there were definitely parts of the business that I certainly did not enjoy.

I had fun writing Exclusive and fictionalizing so much of my life as a journalist. And, when I do booksignings for Exclusive, I actually tell people the real stories that lead to various situations in Exclusive. So, this book, is an insider's tale if ever there was.

Author Yasmin Shiraz introduces the reader to Tisha Ariel Nikkole in her novel, Exclusive. Tisha is a magazine journalist and for several months she collects information about a rapper that goes by the name Shout. She becomes infatuated by Shout after seeing him on television. She is given an opportunity by an old friend to interview him after his concert. While at the concert she sees groupies trying to do whatever they can to get his attention. She wants to get close to him without acting like a groupie. Tisha does not know that someone is willing to do whatever they can to keep Shout and her away from each other.

This novel is very entertaining and also gives the reader a look at how it is to be in a relationship with a rapper. The author uses quotes from Tisha's articles and Shouts rap music between each chapter. I recommend this book and look forward to future novels written by Yasmin Shiraz.

"Exclusive: A Novel" is the latest fiction release from author Yasmin Shiraz. While Yasmin is very well known for her "Blueprint For My Girls" series, "Exclusive" is very personal to a life that Yasmin knows well. She was the founder of the now defunct critically acclaimed music magazine "Mad Rhythms." It's obvious that Yasmin was paying close attention during her time in the music business because "Exclusive" reads like an insiders game to the music business. I really enjoyed the book but I was mad at the end! I'm sorry! I need "PRIVACY," the sequel. If I would have had "Privacy" within arms reach I would have been happy and this would have been a five star rating. You know how R. Kelly created a cliff hanger with his "Trapped In The Closet" song? Well "Exclusive" is a cliff hanger book. The main character is named Tisha. She is a music journalist who falls for a rapper named Shout. He is pretty much the biggest thing going. A lot of different things go on in the middle of the book, I don't want to write a spoiler. Tisha basically loses all sense of good judgement and I found myself mad at her for her poor decisions and even more mad at Shout. Tisha did some real dumb stuff and then ran her mouth like diarhea. This is a real good but, so make sure you pick it up and get the sequel too.

The story between the covers of this book was VERY good. This is the first book that I've read from this author, but it WON'T be the last. The pain, paranoia, friendship, fast-paced life of the hip-hop music industry is written from a forgotten dimension - the dimension of a journalist. Characters and scenes are surprising at times; and not to forgot the consequences that come along with being in the circle of celebrities. I won't tell the story, get the book! Well done Ms. Shiraz - great job! I am definitely looking forward to the sequel. "PRIVACY".

Her most fiercest competitor is music executive Jordan Ellis who's being coached by a woman who simply goes by the name of "Juicy". And she truly lives up to her name. This book ends with a big Cliff Hanger!!!

Tisha Ariel Nikkole's life as a journalist has its ups and downs when it comes to dealing with the entertainment industry. Interviewing high profile divas and arrogant rappers can take its toll, with nothing left to show for it but a minimal paycheck and free cds.

Keyshawn Lane, aka Shout, has dealt with the struggles that most rappers endure when trying to have a good album along with a good reputation. He knows that he is not a saint and being hard sells records; but he is tired of his tarnished image and he must clear his name due to circumstances beyond his control.

With an emergency telephone call from a college friend, Tisha is readily able and amped to do an exclusive interview on her fantasy husband Shout. Ready to show the world that her "man" is not the bad person that people see on the videos, Tisha is on the job. Will Tisha be able to show the world a softer side of him, or will she get burned?

I thought the story started off kind of slow, but it quickly picked up with Shout and his antics. Good solid story. I am anticipating reading the sequel.

The story is about a Music Journalist who gets an interview with the hottest rapper in the country and falls head over heals for him. It so happens that the rapper himself gets intrigued by the feisty journalist and they start a relationship. However star life is not something which everyone can go through easily, and that is what the novel is all about.

It is a Romantic novel with a bit of mystery embedded into it. The romance gives out some explicit scenes but not too much for the novel to pass on to the erotic genre. This is the first part of the novel and therefore the story ends at a cliffhanger, thereby taking us to the "coming up" book of the series to know what happens next
