I was expecting something bigger.

I would not even recommend this as a kid's toy; the child will just be as dissappointed as the three of us were.
Southern Boy
Very well built, easy to assemble, easy to use.

The shovel cost;$5.84.The shipping cost;$5.99.The photo has 2 grips, while the description has 1,It arrived with 1.The case had 2,one inch rips in it.The nylon zipper is missing a few teeth, causing it to jam.It has acompass at the top of the handle, which does not work(you would not find your way across the street). On the one grip it has japanese writing,so I would think that it is not made in the U.S.A.I am not sorry I purchased it because I gave it away to a woman who likes planting flower bulbs in the spring. I will,in the near future, purchase a survival shovel...BUT NOT THIS ONE!!!

Not sure if I forgot to read the dimensions on this before I ordered, but it is basically an oversized garden trowel. I was expecting something bigger. It is also quite heavy if you are going to take it backpacking. I am going to keep looking for something a little larger but lighter.

It is lite weight.....Too lite
The blade of this shovel will Bend or break if used as a E-tool.....poor tinsel strength!
Handle/the bevel adjuster to tighten the shovel in locked position is plastic!

Other reviewers said it was too small. To me, that is its best point. Takes up little space; doesn't weigh much. Beats using your hands or a found stick to dig a latrine trench. Is there a rock under you sleeping bag? This could dig it out. You want build fortifications? Bring a construction shovel, pick, and wheel barrel. This is just what I had in mind. Recommended.

This shovel is not good for camping or any other use other then sitting on a shelf. I actually wanted to dig a hole with it but that didn't happen. It's just to darn flimzy.

THIS THING IS REALLY LITTLE. YOU CAN ALMOST PUT THIS IN YOUR FRONT POCKET WITH ROOM LEFT OVER. DO NOT EXPECT A LARGE SHOVEL.
