4.0 out of 5 stars Forbidden Love, June 8, 2005
This review is from: Exclusive: A Novel (Paperback)
Author Yasmin Shiraz introduces the reader to Tisha Ariel Nikkole in her novel, Exclusive. Tisha is a magazine journalist and for several months she collects information about a rapper that goes by the name Shout. She becomes infatuated by Shout after seeing him on television. She is given an opportunity by an old friend to interview him after his concert. While at the concert she sees groupies trying to do whatever they can to get his attention. She wants to get close to him without acting like a groupie. Tisha does not know that someone is willing to do whatever they can to keep Shout and her away from each other.

This novel is very entertaining and also gives the reader a look at how it is to be in a relationship with a rapper. The author uses quotes from Tisha's articles and Shouts rap music between each chapter. I recommend this book and look forward to future novels written by Yasmin Shiraz.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exclusively spilling the beans!, July 17, 2005
This review is from: Exclusive: A Novel (Paperback)
The story between the covers of this book was VERY good. This is the first book that I've read from this author, but it WON'T be the last. The pain, paranoia, friendship, fast-paced life of the hip-hop music industry is written from a forgotten dimension - the dimension of a journalist. Characters and scenes are surprising at times; and not to forgot the consequences that come along with being in the circle of celebrities. I won't tell the story, get the book! Well done Ms. Shiraz - great job! I am definitely looking forward to the sequel. "PRIVACY".

4.0 out of 5 stars Why Tisha Talk So Much! It's a Good Book!, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Exclusive: A Novel (Paperback)
"Exclusive: A Novel" is the latest fiction release from author Yasmin Shiraz. While Yasmin is very well known for her "Blueprint For My Girls" series, "Exclusive" is very personal to a life that Yasmin knows well. She was the founder of the now defunct critically acclaimed music magazine "Mad Rhythms." It's obvious that Yasmin was paying close attention during her time in the music business because "Exclusive" reads like an insiders game to the music business. I really enjoyed the book but I was mad at the end! I'm sorry! I need "PRIVACY," the sequel. If I would have had "Privacy" within arms reach I would have been happy and this would have been a five star rating. You know how R. Kelly created a cliff hanger with his "Trapped In The Closet" song? Well "Exclusive" is a cliff hanger book. The main character is named Tisha. She is a music journalist who falls for a rapper named Shout. He is pretty much the biggest thing going. A lot of different things go on in the middle of the book, I don't want to write a spoiler. Tisha basically loses all sense of good judgement and I found myself mad at her for her poor decisions and even more mad at Shout. Tisha did some real dumb stuff and then ran her mouth like diarhea. This is a real good but, so make sure you pick it up and get the sequel too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yasmin did her thing!, March 17, 2005
This review is from: Exclusive: A Novel (Paperback)
Exclusive was first-rate! The book gave you vast insight into the reality of the hip-hop industry/game. Yasmin did a great job in making the characters and scenes come to life visually for the reader. There were no "over-the-top" situations or "unrealistic" events in the book. I would recommend you buy this and read it...you will love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yasmin...... Exclusive, March 16, 2005
This review is from: Exclusive: A Novel (Paperback)
I thought Exclusive was great. I thought that it was realistic for this day and time. I don't think she went overobard with the sexual scene, but you know that was going on. Yasmin did a great job of giving us visuals while reading. I have read some books and though okay I got a room.... that was it. Exclusive gives you the behind the scenes of how artist are treated and why some many of them get caught up in the Pimp Game.

I loved the book. Thanks Yamsin for giving us the Exclusive.

This review is from: Exclusive: A Novel (Paperback)
Yasmin Shiraz is a brilliant storyteller. She brings the characters to life while reading. You find yourself in the middle of romance and riveting drama. It really made me a believer in love and all that it conquers. Love makes you do some crazy things. Once you read it, you just cannot put it down. Ms. Shiraz sheds light on the entertainment industry and what one does to be "EXCLUSIVE". I truly felt like a "VIP". At the end I felt like an addict---addicted!!!!
