Ray Drummond is among the elite in jazz bassists and has been for years. But Excursion highlights not only his talents as a player, but as a composer and bandleader as well. Excursion is one of the best albums of the past 20 years, and its effects can be seen in the recent releases of Danilo Perez and David Sanchez, both Excursion alumni. This album is delighful.
