4.0 out of 5 stars Simply wicked
This is exactly the sort of house that I'm looking for all the time. I never heard of Felix the Housecat until I started delving into Miss Kitten, Golden Boy, et al but am so far quite impressed. Right mix of deep house, light house, pumping beats and progressive even? Anyway, mix goes all over the place which keeps me interested. I recommend it as it's the best I've...

3.0 out of 5 stars not a great mix
Some good tracks but poor mixing, and the mix remains choppy and doesn't build. Haven't played this in a couple of years, a sure sign it's no keeper.

Right mix of deep house, light house, pumping beats and progressive even? Anyway, mix goes all over the place which keeps me interested. I recommend it as it's the best I've heard in a while. Somewhat of a cross between Danny Tenaglia and Daft Punk? Not exactly a party album as it tends to slow down in places bu fun nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still my favorite Felix mix., January 21, 2010
This review is from: Excursions (Audio CD)
These are choice electro songs, some of which Felix da Housecat obviously chose for their nostalgic value. Some are quite beautiful (We In Music's track is perfection), and all are keeping with the overdone glitz and cheesy angst that define the electro genre.

I don't know what the other reviewers are complaining about. The mixing is fine. It's electroclash, it's meant to be dirty, fuzzy, lo-fi, what have you. But make no mistake, these tracks FLOW tightly and impeccably into one another. For how different they are, that's a feat that not many could pull off, but Felix does it.

A gorgeous blend with the usual suspects (no surprises here: Ladytron, Miss Kittin, Zoot Woman, and even an appearance from Felix's alter-ago, Aphrohead) that's perfect for chilling or dancing or driving. I own every single Felix album released and this one is definitely one of his best, especially for those wanting some less abrasive electroclash.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dance Orientated Electro House, December 29, 2007

Interesting how the tides have turned in the world of electronica once again. Yes, electro house and minimalist house have both exploded in popularity and dare I say have entered the forbidden realm of mainstream?

I wonder what Felix Da Housecat thinks of all the hype that these genres have gained since 2006? Well, have a listen to Excursions by yours truly and you'll hear for yourself that this man has been doing it with electro house years before. Maybe a little ahead of its time? The trouble with Felix's contribution to Excursions was its release date. The year 2002. When progressive tracks, compilations, and albums reigned supreme.

I actually like this album better than a lot of todays electro house albums that are flocking to the shelves. Electronica serves a variety of purposes for different people, but my gripe with a lot of the recent releases of electro house tracks is that they lack any sort of beat, melody or rhythm. Aren't these elements the essence of what makes music...music?

Mind you, there are a lot of ho-hum tracks on this album, but when "Gas 126" by Kiki hits, the mix just takes off before grounding again after "Over the Hill". These three tracks may be old but I rather be on the dancefloor to this trio versus a lot of what is being produced now.

3.5/5 stars

3.0 out of 5 stars good tracks, poor mix, October 31, 2007
This review is from: Excursions (Audio CD)
felix helped hype up and push the disco-electro revival (?) - his role should not be underestimated. Several groups found on this comp. were given the last push they needed. There is however no steady level of quality on this record, especially towards the end the tracks lose character and are nothing more than danceable, without being memorable. Also, quite irritatingly, some of the mixes are totally off on this album, and some are so sudden that it shouldn't even be refered to as a mix at all. But in the end there are some great tracks on this album and Felix' overall feel for good music and vibe should be commended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Electro, December 15, 2003

Very good track selection ruined by questionable mixing. I mean the first 3 mixes not only aren't properly matched, the location of the mix is poor. Aside from that, great tracks. Bring back the 80's!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, May 23, 2003

I've heard this CD 5 times in a row already and can't get enough. The mix is excellent and dirty enough like the 80s. I saw Felix mixing deep house 3-4 years ago in Miami, and he's come a long way staying on top of the genres and redefining what people are searching for musically. Great mix, and great depeche mode style synths! --

3.0 out of 5 stars not bad, April 9, 2003

I'm sorry but I've got to say that this album slightly disappointed me. The tunes felix has chosenare all great but I have to say for a commercial release the mixing is not very tight - pretty poor in places. Not quite what I expected from someone who makes as good a tunes as Felix.

Overall though it's worth about 3 stars.
