3.0 out of 5 stars Excursions in Modern Mathematics
This book is quite good when used in conjunction with the MyMathlab kit. You can work the problems online and get help if there is something you don't understand.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Textbook, November 25, 1998
By A Customer
I teach a university course based on this textbook and I really like it. It is full of mathematics that students can apply readily to everyday situations, without being heavily computational. The problem sets are relevant to the chapter text. Also, the problem sets are divided into three categories ("walking", "jogging", and "running") based on the level of thought that must go into them. The four chapters on statistics and probability are not quite what I'd like them to be, because in my opinion they cover too much statistical ground in hardly any depth. They would be better if they just did some basic statistics and didn't try to get students at this level into normal curves and standard deviations and all that. My students are particularly fond of the graph theory unit (chapters 5-8). In fact, their only complaint of the book so far is the high price.

The Text I received was nothing short of quality, I mean sure I think I found one spot from pencil on the cover, easily erased it, other than that, no exaggeration when I say the book looks BRAND NEW!

The book came in great condition for the previous 6th edition of Excursions in Modern Mathematics textbook. It did have writing in the first couple of pages but it's a used book. Can't complain it only cost me like $20 when I bought it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only Had one problem with this book., January 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Only had one problem with this book and it was that it didn't come with MyMathLab access code that was supposed to be in when you buy it new. So I had to spend another 70 dollars to get the online access code. Was that fair? No. I think it was crapping. But whatever. I'll get the cash back when I sell this book at the end of class. So whatever.

2.0 out of 5 stars Math isn't for infants, but this book is, January 3, 2009
This review is from: Excursions in Modern Mathematics (6th Edition) (Hardcover)
I removed this from its envelope and gasped when I realized it was only the cover - the entire mass of bound pages had fallen out. Used books rock. After I remedied this with Elmer's Glue, I set out on a mathematical journey. Except it wasn't very mathematical, this thing is really colorful and childish. I believe Prentice Hall has a penchant for publishing the most ridiculous, simplified drivel. Most of the pages are taken up by these erroneous rambling storybook things that go way out on a tangent. Yes, they're "Excursions" but they don't have to be so mindless. Maybe I'm just taking the wrong math class. I'll try College Algebra with a different book next year.
