Tenor sax player Paul Kendall and drummer Bob Leto do a nice job on this 66-minute collection of standards, seldom-heards and two originals. Pianist Kenny Drew Jr. and bassist John Ray round out the quartet as they present "So in Love," "You and the Night and the Music," "Charade," "Peace" and four others, including Kendall's "Excursions" and the younger Drew's "A Look Inside." It's another interesting listen from Brownstone Recordings.

Exciting Jazz Quartet,

This is a saxophone led jazz quartet featuring rising star Kenny Drew Jr. on the piano chair. Co-led by saxophonist Paul Kendall and drummer Bob Leto, the quartet is filled out by bassist John Ray. The sheer technical mastery of Kenny Drew's playing on this recording is reason enough to buy this. There is also strong playing by the rest of the cast. The contrasting styles of postbop Kendall and eclectic Drew Jr. and accompanyment by Leto and Ray that supports both makes this an interesting listen.
