5.0 out of 5 stars Charlie and Lola Are Back - Hooray!
I could not wait for this book to come out, and picked up a copy for my daughter and my school library on its release date. My first grade daughter read this from cover to cover on her own, inflecting her own accent and "voices" for Charlie and Lola. She probably got that from the wonderful television show, which I highly recommend (Disney's Playhouse). As I a school...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the same as the originals
I was looking forward to this one, since I like the episode it was based on. But this, in a nutshell, is the problem with this disappointing book: the first three books were original creations, this was based on a TV episode. It shows; it lacks the charm of the episode it was based on, let alone the charm of the first three books. This book moves Charlie and Lola from the...

As I a school librarian, I love Lola because she epitomizes the joys and struggles of being a young person. Young children like Lola do get fixated on a favorite book in the library, and sometimes get to thinking it's "theirs", and that there is no other book that can top it. Charlie is fantastic as the understanding older brother who guides Lola around the library, with each book becoming a new discovery. My students and my own children have loved every single book Lauren Child has put out, and this new entry will become a instant favorite! If you are new to Charlie and Lola, I urge you to pick up the first three books, and read them aloud with your children and/or students.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the same as the originals, February 19, 2006
This review is from: But Excuse Me That is My Book (Charlie and Lola) (Hardcover)
I was looking forward to this one, since I like the episode it was based on. But this, in a nutshell, is the problem with this disappointing book: the first three books were original creations, this was based on a TV episode. It shows; it lacks the charm of the episode it was based on, let alone the charm of the first three books. This book moves Charlie and Lola from the charm of the first three, to the after-thought of a conglomerate.

It's not terrible...my daughter has enjoyed it (which, we should remind ourselves, is the true test of a children's book), but it hasn't had the staying power with her of the other books. I hope that if they do another C & L book, the book comes first, not the TV episode. Somehow, I doubt that will happen.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as the others, June 12, 2006
This review is from: But Excuse Me That is My Book (Charlie and Lola) (Hardcover)
This book is taken from an episode of the TV series and is not an "original" story. The writing and "flow" of the book is nowhere as good as the other books. I highly recommend the other books (that is, "Not Sleepy", "Too Small for School" and "Not eat a Tomato"). I also recommend the TV series on the Disney Channel - It is one of the few children shows that all of us (adults included) enjoy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not REALLY Charlie & Lola, February 2, 2006
This review is from: But Excuse Me That is My Book (Charlie and Lola) (Hardcover)
This book is based on the Charlie and Lola TV series and isn't really by Lauren Child. You can tell by the third sentence that it lacks the charm and originality of the other 3 Charlie and Lola books. I was disappointed - however, my three year old doesn't seem to mind nearly as much as I do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good, but still a great picture book!, June 28, 2006
This review is from: But Excuse Me That is My Book (Charlie and Lola) (Hardcover)
I really debated about buying this book for my 3-yr-old daughter. True, she is in love with her 3 other "Charlie and Lola" books, as well as "My Dream Bed"--another wonderful Lauren Child book. Still, when I paged through this book in the bookstore I thought it had too much text on many pages, and overall it is certainly not as charming as "Tomato", "Not Sleepy", and "Too small 4 school".

Alas, despite my misgivings, my daughter loves this book so much! We read the book before she saw the corresponding episode of the "Charlie and Lola'" show on Playhouse Disney; then when she did see the show, she loved the book even more.

I agree with many of the other reviewers that this book is not as good as many of Child's other picture books. However, to a 3-yr-old in love with Charlie and Lola, Lotta, and even imaginary Soren Lorenson, this book is better-loved and more often requested than many other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, December 17, 2011

My son (almost 6) and daughter (3 1/2) both love this story. They have not seen any of the Charlie and Lola shows, but easily identify with the fun pictures, humor, and storyline of this book regardless. Just the right length for young children and entertaining for adults to read through as well.

We typically only purchase books for our home if it's a library book that they ask for me to read repeatedly. This is one of those books!

Charlie and Lola are so great! The pictures are outstanding! The imagination that Charlie and Lola has motivates our kids to think outside the box. What a great series. Once you buy one, you have to buy another. Excellent buy for a beautiful book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yay Charlie & Lola!, August 23, 2007
This review is from: But Excuse Me That is My Book (Charlie and Lola) (Hardcover)
My 2-year-old has fallen in love with Charlie & Lola and this book is wonderful. It is longer than most picture books, with more words per page but keeps her interest very well. She caught a couple of episodes of the show (I love that they're only 11 minutes or so long, each, enabling me to further limit any television she sees) and fell in love. The books are great and funny. I'll probably be buying all of the Charlie & Lola books after reading this one and I Am Too Absolutely Small for School (Charlie and Lola). She loves them, I'm not bored out of my mind, so it's a win-win. I would recommend these books from toddler up to early elementary! Yay pink milk!
