"Bad Girl" Sandra Bernhard's Good Record,

This album is more music-oriented than her previous critically-acclaimed "Without You I'm Nothing." The present album will surprise those who think that Bernhard's only claim to fame is through Scorsese's "King of Comedy" or by being gal pal to the Material Girl. Bernhard has a beautifully trilling soprano that gets to the upper registers without effort -- something Madonna should aspire for. Her take of Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" was lovingly sung as was her homage to Laura Nyro ("The Woman I Could Have Been"). She gets to groove deliciously in "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" and does a Hendrix ("Manic Superstar") by juxtaposing Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Everything is Alright." I had fun with this album because of its musicality and her lovely voice that is as luscious as her full lips.

I've been enjoying Sandra Bernhard's music and books for years - and I have to tell you this CD is one of my favorites of all. She's witty, sassy and fun - with lots of beats thrown in here and there and great lyrics that force you to listen to her. She can be very funny and engaging like on the song "Phone Sex" which is hilarious once you really listen to what she's saying. Highly recommend this album to anyone who even likes Sandra a little bit..

I bought this to replace the original CD from back in the 90's. It still sounds fresh and raw like it did. One of her best works.

This album weaves all over the place, from spoken word to covers to mash-ups. My favorite track is 3, a mash up of Hendrix, 'Manic Depression' and "Jesus Christ Superstar" song, 'Everything's Alright'. She blends the smooth and the sharp with a deft series of notes. Still one of the best uses of a voice I have ever heard. If you need no other reason to try this album, grab it for track number 3, 'Manic Superstar'. Other favorites are track numbers 2, 11 and 15. The quality of the songs I love makes up for what I don't like.
