I've had this album for six months now and it's still growing on me like bacteria. The beats are really something mad fresh - reverse tape loops, little twittering synth sounds, sweeping string chords - there's no end to the invention Hutch brings to this crisp biccie: and all underpinned by that PHAT bass you expect from a west coast artist. Many of the flourishes are so subtle you don't notice them at first listening. Complementing the understated beats is Hutch's smooth, almost whispered at times, delivery on the mic. Yes, my friends this album is the dog's proverbials. Not instant gratification but an album of hidden treasures that'll keep you craving for a LONG time. Ease into it.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Pomona's Finest", September 6, 1999
By A Customer

Gregory Hutchinson Jr. aka Big Hutch, Cold 187 um has stayedtrue to his fans with his lyrics and of course he has elevated thegame when it comes to production as usual. Why he and the rest of Above the Law have never gone gold is one of the great mysteries of man. Check the black satin smooth feel of "Velvet Lifestyle," and the thought provoking "My Life." Don't waste your ducats on any of that garbage oozing out of New Orleans or that fake thug wannabes out of the Ruff Ryders camp. Big Hutch and the Pimp Clinic are on a whole nutha' level, I thought ya knew?

5.0 out of 5 stars The 187-Master on a solo!, December 30, 2005
This review is from: Executive Decisions (Audio CD)
Big Hutch aka Cold 187um who's the front man of Above the Law, Cold 187um goes under his alias, Big Hutch to bring a solid solo joint to your ears. The better known man from Above the Law brings his distinct voice and style over some more G-Funk beats that Above the Law has always brung. Production is good and just what you'd expect from something Above the Law is on, nice, smooth G-Funk beats, Big Mil does 6 of the 15, Big Hutch does 4, DJ Silk does 2, SOC, Aaron, Tha Chill all do 1. Guests are on half of the songs, and KMG of Above the Law gets in on 3. It has 2 songs I skip, 4 are ok, and the other 10 are good, with one being a great song. A good album to have for fans of G-Funk or Above the Law. Big Hutch has a pretty tight album, I've seen the music video to the song Bubonic Plague if anyone is interested!

The 187-Master's best are 2, 3, *4(featuring Ha Ha Loc & Bam), 5(featuring KMG & Tha Chill), *6(featuring Xzibit & KMG), 8(featuring Safecracka), 9, *10(featuring Young Ten & Bam), 12(featuring Saafir), 13 & 15(featuring KMG & Bam).

5.0 out of 5 stars brand new cd, January 11, 2012

Big Hutch aka Cold187um of Above The Law. The Pomona OG talks to us about his time in prison, his plans now that he's out, his upcoming project "Fresh Out The Pen" as well as the new Above The Law album in the works.
Most importantly though, we go in-depth and controversial about the state of the West Coast, Hutch speaks on Dr. Dre, G-Funk, the DJ's, people imitating other styles, losing ones identity, and his solution to the problem on the West.

His second album live from the ghetto sounds better i have to buy that one.hopefully not as disapointing

I made a blood oath years ago to buy anything that Cold 187em (now Big Hutch) and ATL put out. For the longest time after the bomb (and I mean that in a bad way) of an album "Forever Rich Thugs", I haden't heard from this group. In perusing Amazon, I found that Big Hutch had two albums out I had not had (Executive Decisions and Live from the Ghetto) and I knew I had to get them, no matter the cost.

In terms of Executive Decisions, I had hoped that this album wasn't as bad as Forver Rich Thugs; thankfully it was not. In fact, it was very good. I would be lying if I thought the rap in and of itself wasn't growing old - it is. But I am some 15 years older now and probably have had my fill of pimping, hustling, and balling. The refreshing part of this album is that almost all of the tracks have some freshness in the music: "Do You Know" is as good as it gets from any ATL album. Its probably easier for me to list the tracks that miss: 2 Killas, Playa Hater (although its kind of funny) and the "Bonus Track".

Buy this album if your an ATL fan and you can get it for under 20 bucks; you'll be pleasantly surprised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Musically the best hip-hop album in a long time, July 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Executive Decisions (Audio CD)
Listening to 187um's new album, it is easy to say that he is one of hip-hop's great producers and musicians. Throughout his carreer his production has elevated, always taking steps forward, never backwards. This new album is even better than any of Above the Law's albums, for the simple reason that it is put together so brilliantly. Kokane combines with 187um to put down melodies remeniscent of Parlaiment over smooth, mindblowing funk. Other cameos such as Xibit and Saafir, only enhance an otherwise superb album. Simply put, this is a classic, and even though it will be slept on, those who like good music will not be dissapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, June 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Executive Decisions (Audio CD)
Hutch aka Cold187um from Above the Law returns with a solo album. Like most ATL albums, this one is a gem that will most likely be slept on by all heads. Hutch's production seems to get better and better on each project and from the few tracks that I have heard there's no exception on this project. You have got to support real music like this.
