5.0 out of 5 stars Shanklin continues with winners!, October 7, 1999
This review is from: Executive Privileges (Audio CD)
Paul Shanklin has done it again! For the fourth time, in four tries, we have a real winner! This is the best of the four and this CD is a great blend of parodies and songs. Shanklin's has a real talent and it comes shining through on this CD.

The voices of Bill, Hillary, Al and even Elvis make appearances on this CD. You find yourself laughing and thinking at the same time while listening to a great collection. You can't go wrong with this purchase.

The 32 tracks, most of any CD so far, brings you IN A YUGO, SPINNIN THE LIESA AWAY and FRIENDS IN ASIAN PLACES, just to name a few, several of which have been played on the Rush Limbaugh radio program.

About all that is missing is the Christmas and the Millennium Album. My only question is what will Shanklin do in when this administration leaves Washington.

5.0 out of 5 stars This IS the funny guy!, July 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Executive Privileges (Audio CD)
THIS is the funny guy on the Rush Limbaugh show! Paul does the voices of Clinton, Perot, James Carville, ALGORE and all the rest! This has the hillarious songs like "I Saw Her Derriere", "Friends In Asian Places" and the Elvis voice "In A Yugo". The comedy bits are CLASSIC, like "Minister Farrakhan's Neighborhood", the asian money scandal piece "Your Price Is Right!" and the all time knee slapper "Larry King Alive: Ken Starr, Space Alien" with the foaming at the mouth James Carville! This last bit is enough reason to buy the CD alone! This is the guy who is still on Rush's show for one simple reason ... HE IS FUNNY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy Fast: Dated Humor, September 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Executive Privileges (Audio CD)
The problem with topical humor is that it passes fast. Chevy Chase's newsreading that Francisco Franco was still critically dead, shortly after that leader passed away (he'd been passing away a long time) was funny when he did it, but would only get a befuddled silence if played these days.

Paul Shanklin, one of the most gifted vocalists to come along in years, has produced several very funny, cutting-edge albums of topical humor. Only the hardest-hearted liberals, who sincerely believe that President Clinton's problems are not of his own making and develop their arcane conspiracy theories, can't see the humor at cuts like "Spinnin' my Lies Away" and the Larry King spoof (even James Carville himself must smile at them).

His dead-on Elvis of "In a Yugo" is remarkable. And the timing on most of the tracks is impeccable -- the best being "True Diversity", a spoof on a rather cloying radio commercial.

There has been a dearth of right-wing humor over the years, not because conservatives don't have a sense of humor (I've been on both sides and found more good humor on the conservative side), but because most comedians are liberal, probably because in their flat earth mindset they see the "cutting edge" as cutting only one way.

"Friends in Asian Places" is my favorite cut. Using as its basis a genuinely likeable tune, it teases rather than buries Al Gore's Temple-Fundraising scandal.

But these are items that will soon be out of date, inexplicable, and, in twenty years, fetch high prices on e-bay from collectors. If you want a laugh, buy the cd now (and also buy "This Land was Your Land", Shanklin's second-best album)
