5.0 out of 5 stars Executive Values Applicable to All Leaders
"Executive Values" clearly presents the pressures and seemingly conflicting responsibilities experienced by those in positions of management and leadership. A Christian approach to solving these dilemmas is presented in logical and humane ways. Kurt Senske gives much evidence that the "bottom line" is not the highest priority. 3.0 out of 5 stars Does the Job
My employer asked me to read this book, and being a dutiful employee, I did. Most of the advice Senske proffers is sound common sense: Do right by your customers, your employees, and your family, and doing good will result in your doing well. The book grows out of modern management literature rather than the Bible, and Senske virtually ignores Old Testament stories that...

5.0 out of 5 stars Executive Values Applicable to All Leaders, April 11, 2003

This review is from: Executive Values (Hardcover)
"Executive Values" clearly presents the pressures and seemingly conflicting responsibilities experienced by those in positions of management and leadership. A Christian approach to solving these dilemmas is presented in logical and humane ways. Kurt Senske gives much evidence that the "bottom line" is not the highest priority. Not only will CEOs and other executives be interested in this recommended application of the Golden Rule, but I also urge the church professionals - pastors, school administrators, youth leaders - to give it serious attention.

Dr. Senske has outlined very practical applications for leaders of any type of organization. He outlines what it takes to be an ethical and effective leader. He explains how to appropriately respond to challenges and dilemmas that await leaders at every turn. Having served on the board of directors of Lutheran Social Services of the South with Dr. Senske as CEO, I have witnessed first hand the effectiveness of what he outlines in the book. A must read for all leaders!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ethics in the Market Place, April 4, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Executive Values (Hardcover)
Kurt Senske, CEO of a faith-based social service agency,
has written a management book on ethical principles in the
everyday market place. He has challenged the business world
to look at the Golden Rule -- "Do unto others as you would
have them do unto you" (Luke 6:31) -- and apply it to developing your vision, mentoring your staff, and obtaining
your bottom line. An attorney, a creative administrator, and
a Christian leader, Dr. Kurt Senske is a fresh breath of air
in the midst of scandals and unethical business practices in
our world. The book is very readable, has good outlines,
and causes one to want to "be a better person" both professionally and personally. He has accomplished what he
set out to do -- establish ethical principles in a business
world.

The Rev. Melvin G. Swoyer, Board Certified Chaplain

Kurt Senske does an excellent job of describing the various pressures placed upon leaders and how to deal with them following Christian perspectives. This is not only a helpful book for CEOs and department heads in various businesses and industries, but the church professionals will also find it to be an effective tool for pastors, church administrators, church-related school principals and others. The need to balance the responsibilities toward one's occupation and one's family and guidelines for doing so come through loud and clear!

By
This review is from: Executive Values (Hardcover)
Just finished reading "Executive Values" and highly recommend it to anyone interested in well researched and applied "best practices" for leaders. Dr. Senske shares how he exercises biblically sound principals when making difficult business decisions. A true team builder and respector of others, his insights add value to studies on ethics, as well as business and management. A must read for funders, managers, teachers, clergy, and others concerned about pitfalls, such as led to collapse of Enron.

My employer asked me to read this book, and being a dutiful employee, I did. Most of the advice Senske proffers is sound common sense: Do right by your customers, your employees, and your family, and doing good will result in your doing well. The book grows out of modern management literature rather than the Bible, and Senske virtually ignores Old Testament stories that might have been applied to management training. Nevertheless, the Scripture he does use is handled sensibly and without guile. I dropped the book one star for not including an index.
