I have noticed over the years how intolerant the Far Left has become, to the point of incoherence. The Left doesn't seem to be able to formulate an argument for any of their positions, but relies instead on making personal attacks on those holding opposing views. There is no longer a sense that issues can be discussed or debated. In fact, the Left no longer wishes to debate much of anything anymore. People of the Left now rely on emotionalism, insults and intimidation to 'win their arguments'.
It's frightening, because a free society needs debate. But it needs true debate, not emotional shouting matches in which only one side gets to be heard.
I have often wondered how this has come about and this book goes a long way in answering that question. Generations are passing through our schools and universities being inculcated in one political view and then witnessing the tactics of personal intimidation and retribution in making that view dominant.
Most people realize that academia is liberal, but few realize how debate, reflection and investigation are being shut down within the institutions themselves. This book does a wonderful job of giving the reader a clear picture of what is going on inside these important cultural institutions. I highly recommend it.

Mary did a good job of explaining what she went through. It was a little difficult to get to her point in the beginning but then it took off and she was able to explain the treatment she received which was unkind to say the least. As a professional person and a conservative, she should not have been treated so poorly. I'd like to read more of Mary's books because she brings many things to the fore front in a very step by step way.

The book is short and consists of essays written by various conservative academics who discuss the loss of diversity of opinion within our colleges and universities and why it happened. This diversity is every bit as important as making sure that these same institutions are racially and gender diverse. Most of this loss has occurred within the non math and science departments; however, it has begun to leak into the scientific community. See global warming which is now called climate change for an example. (The name change was done because the facts showed that temperatures haven't increased by more than a small fraction of a percent over the last 15 to 20 years. Furthermore, as any trained climatologist will tell you, the climate is always changing with or without the influence of man.) In any case without diversity of opinion the academic community will feed students their opinions without providing alternatives even when such alternate views and facts may be just as relevant to the subject matter. Ultimately, the student's ability to think critically and examine all sides of an issue are being hampered as he or she does not have all the facts. As an example, most professors will tell you that colonialism in many areas of the world was hateful. While that is true to a degree, students may not be told of some of its beneficial elements such as the ending of slavery in Africa by colonialists. The upshot is that we get students who really aren't being educated but are being indoctrinated instead. This will lead to dire consequences for our nation such as loss of the freedoms established in the Bill of Rights.
