This review is from: Existential Counselling & Psychotherapy in Practice (Hardcover)
A must read book for any professional or client seeking a practical, easy, and comprehensive way to undertake Existential Treatment for various life problems and a multitude of diagnosed mental illnesses. Van Deurzen takes all the convoluted and difficult to understand Existential concepts and transforms them into plain English (literally from England's use of the language) and offers many real life examples of the use of Existential counseling over a broad range of mental health problems and the techniques employed or perhaps better yet the use of the perspective (as Van Deurzen makes a point to avoid over-simplistic American techniques).

Van Duerzen contrasts the European model of the balance between freedom and responsibility and the American model of treatment that she feels focuses too exclusively on freedom and individuality. Well worth the money, either the 1st or 2nd Edition will surface as the differences are very small. To be considered the best reference guide to this form of counseling.
