5.0 out of 5 stars the best portuguese group you will ever listen to...., September 3, 1998
By A Customer

Teresa Salgueiro has an amazing voice. She can transmit feelings that you never thought were possible in a melody. The echo of her soul flies throughout the room and you imagine yourself in a world of clouds were nothing exists and you have nothing to worry about. I had the pleasure of listening to this group inumerous times in Portugal and could never get over the emotion that is it to be part of a dream... I have to be partial...I am portuguese and Madredeus is a part of our soul, our feelings and our culture, wherever we are in the world, Madredeus is Portugal!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A CONSTELLATION IS BORN, August 15, 2000

EXISTIR is the second album recorded by Madredeus, and it is truly a jewel... Released in 1990, it brings many remarkable songs, and the first worldwide success of the group, O PASTOR. This piece, hard to describe or classify in any musical rythm or school, is still one of the most famous songs of the group. Teresa Salgueiro's voice were already marvelous, and the fine harmonies and arrangments, joining instruments like the cello and the classic guitar, the accordion and the keyboards, made Madredeus the outstanding success they are up to now... After all, who can survive emotionless after listening to songs like O POMAR DAS LARANJEIRAS?

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is gorgeous!, December 22, 1998

This is the most beautiful CD I've ever heard. I cried all the way through the first time I heard it and I don't cry. Not even in Titanic. But, anyway, this CD is so beautiful. The woman's voice just makes you really feel the music. I highly recommend Existir to anyone out there with a soul. It will really touch you inside. At least, it touched me.

I bought this when I was feeling real low. I am Portuguese. It made me cry, but remember my lovely grandfather, Larry Cunha who played the mandolin. Now, my other Grandparents are getting old. I play this CD for tehm and they love it. Very comforting and breathtaking even if you aren't a Portuguese girl!

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL, MADREDEUS, YOU'RE THE GREATEST !, July 8, 2006
This review is from: Existir (Audio CD)
If you like to be "in", you'd rather see a blockbuster instead of a minor art-movie, yo prefer Dan Brown instead of Paul Auster, you feel thrilled with Britney Spears, or you're keen on the latest punk band or rock solist, this is not for you. Madredeus is far from being popular, counting with a large amount of followers who admire them for the originality and beauty of their work. Teresa Salgueiro is the heart of the group and her voice seduces even the stones. Marvelous singing, meaningful lyrics (yes, I do undestand portuguese), fascinating arrangements. The problem with Madredeus is similar to the one you get while eating peanuts or potato chips: you know when you start listening but you never know when you will end: their tunes are addictive. "Existir" is a wonderful first step towards their music, but try to get "Ainda" first, an album they composed for a Wim Wenders documentary, "Lisbon Story". That will kill you right after. Anyhow, they're all first-rate albums.
