This review is from: Exit Paradise (Audio CD)
For those unfamiliar with Bay Area thrashers Epidemic....well I think you're missing out. I consider this band a more 90's post-thrash style band in terms of their sound on "Decameron" in the vein of CFH era Pantera, Sepultura's Arise etc. However on "Exit Paradise" it is my opinion that the death metal influence are a bit stronger. Vocally I would compare them to a Possessed/Obituary hybrid on this album where as on Decameron they sounded more in line with Pestilence or Death in the early 90's. I will say I absolutely love Decameron, but Exit Paradise is not without it's moments of awesomeness.
People familiar with heavy metal these days will not be shocked by Epidemic's sound or song writing dynamic but if you keep in mind that this band had released this in 1994 it tends to change one's perspective on things as there wasn't quite the flood of varying metal bands in those days, not much press, and a whole ton of special ordering and tape trading to get a hold of killer metal bands. I would recommend this album for fans of mid-time frame Sepultura, Heathen, or more heavy thrash/death metal. Though both Decameron and Exit Paradise seem to be becoming less accessible for purchase, if anyone knows where I can get the "Lament" 7" or "Truth of What Will Be" CD shoot me a line! |
