Best Techno Album Ever!!,
This review is from: Exit Planet Dust (Audio CD)
Okay, maybe that is a little strong to say, but Exit Planet Dust by the Chemical Brothers definitely ranks as one of techno/electronica's greatest CDs ever. I remember that I bought this a month ago and after already having Dig Your Own Hole to go by, I was a little disappointed on first listen. However, I decided to listen to it again and really concentrate on the music. I saw this album in a completely different light and it is in heavy rotation in my Maxima with its Bose system right now. The first 4 tracks are outstanding especially Leave Home and Three Little Birdies Down Beats. Then you have other great tracks like Chemical Beats, Chico's Groove, and Alive Alone sung by Beth Orton which is my favorite track on the album and one of techno/electronica's greatest songs. This CD is a little more focused than DYOH and a little more chill-out and ambient but in a frantic ambient way. Much better than DYOH--I should have gotten EPD first. A must-own album!

Some fresh air on the scene,

How do you describe music that is a very successful mixture of many styles?Chemical Brothers rocked the world with this debut record. It's a very inspired and energetic album. It's electronica based on break-beat rhythms, which occasionally change for hip-hop-style beats. On top of that there are plenty of driving, rocking your seat, bass-lines, a whole lot of interwoven synthesizers, and many sound samples taken from "real life". It's all plastered together in a very intricate and crafty manner, immediately making sense, and taking you away. While mostly uptempo, a couple of slower tracks do not spoil the atmosphere. This is an almost-perfect electronica release, which has the potential to rock the listener who wants it, or to be an unobtrusive background music to those who prefer it that way. Superb effort by Tom and Ed.

A Great Listen, Any Time,

Hard to believe it's already about 6 years old, but this is still a good listening electronic music album. "Life is Sweet" and "Alive Alone" prove that "electronica" can have some memorable tunes as opposed to just "big beats", while "Three Little Birdies Down Beats" delivers said beats. And for those only recently drawn in to the Brothers' wall of sound, "Exit Planet" shows that they had clearly developed their own sound and methods of sampling. All in all, a very solid and enjoyable album even for those who think "electronic" or "techno" music simply means THUMP-THUMP-THUMP and no emotion.

Chemical Brothers Gonna work it out,

I have to say I listen to lot of different types of music and if your one of those people who's looking for something to pick you up before going out or you want something to chill out to then this album is for you. The mad Chemical beats and In Dust we Trust make you up for anything while One too many Mornings allows u to chill after a heavy night. The Chemical Brothers have produced a great album which is different and diverse in every way. I would recommended this to anyone who has more than one taste in music

A benchmark. People of every musical taste can enjoy this (trust me...I've played it for everyone, and nobody ever asks me to turn it off). Very addictive. Operates a step below the chaotic frenzy of "Dig Your Own Hole", yet maintains a consistent groove that makes your whole body want to move. I rank it in my Top 3 All-Time for all different music CDs, and feel this will stand the test of time for years to come. Perfect for the end of the millenium. Chicks love it because it's danceable. Guys love it because it rocks in a futuristic manner. Not "pop" music, but easily popular with any crowd.

A fantastic debut album,

This review is from: Exit Planet Dust (Audio CD)
Exit Planet Dust by The Chemical Brothers is a stunning debut album, one of the best debut albums by any artist. The sound of The Bros might seem a bit incosistent here, but what this album lacks in consinstency is rewarded with the best sampling and ideas ever accomplished. The album sounds just as fresh as it was released 10 years ago and stands the test of time. The uptempo first part is followed by a midtempo second part which contains two fantastic collaborations, "Life Is Sweet" and "Alive Alone". These 2 songs alone are worth the price of the album and the 5 stars it receives. This is the beginning of the so-called big beat techno style which was invented and further developped by The Chems and copied by many artists (mostly Fatboy Slim and Propellerheads) after this release. This album paves the way to the second album by The Chems which happens to be the best tachno album of the decade. Nevertheless, the fresh sound of Exit Planet Dust is still a feast for the ear and I like to listen to this album every once for a while. This is one hell of a brainstorm, a book of ideas that never gets boring. One can still find something that needs to be discovered. Whomever said that techno was boring, was wrong. Techno music never sounded this good. Anyone who's new to The Chems should give this album a try. They will be surprised. There is no tight structure here, no concept, just the love of music. This is what makes the world turn around.

Well, Well, Well, If it isn't the album that changed dance music history? This 1995 album from The Chemical Brothers was definitly ahead of it's time and that's why it is said that it is "The Album That Changed Dance Music History" by many people, and even other D.J's! This is definitly one of The Chemical Brothers best pieces of work, including the singles "Leave Home" "Song To The Siren" and "Life Is Sweet" it makes it a great album, and is why I rate it four stars.

Chico's Groove and One Too Many Mornings make this cd. Without them it would be a good cd, but with them this cd is great.

This is a good cd. I bought this cd shortly after i bought Dig Your Own Hole. Dig Your Own Hole had its own highlights but this isnt about DYOH. This is about the beginning. The death of dust and the reincarnation of pure elation. About Chemicals man! To get you to buy this CD i will run you through the first 6 tracks.First track: Leave home: Its always difficult to start off new but its also chance for a fresh start. The Chemical brothers knew this. 'The brothers' gonna work it out' they chant over and over again working tirelessly puting time, effort, love and creativity into this track to build your soul up. Slow but reassuring. You know that something bigger is going to come. Second track: In Dust We Trust: A roller coaster in the dark. A bit shakey and a little unsettling but the Chemical Brothers know what they are doing. They have a plan. The ride is a little rough and your skin calluses but its okay. Youll be fine in the long run. This is training. Third track: Song to the Siren: a sweet voice serenades you but you realize that there is still danger ahead. The siren lulls you towards the unconscious yet you hear another siren from the oncoming police. You're caught between the two. you want to run, you want to dance, but you can't decide. Its too late though. It doesnt even matter anymore. Its okay. Its okay because the siren says so. You delve into your head and you are lost. Nothing is guiding you anymore. your soul swims in murky waters. This is a sign that you are currently on the Fourth track. Three Little Birdies Down Beats. The world is not yours anymore. Nothing is tangeable. People, things, spirits pass you and you call out but nobody hears you. You cant do anything but then again, why would you want to? This is enlightenment. Don't try to stop it. Just go with it. And suddenly the ground starts to shake. Fifth track. F*** up Beats. The earth is torn out from all around you. There's nothing left to stand on. What The F*** is going on!?? you ask. And god notices you. What The F*** are you doing here? He says. but you do not understand his speech. His language is foreign and you realize that you're not even dead yet. The large hand belonging to whom you recognize to be god engulfs you and there is nothing but darkness for a period of time. Sixth track : Chemical Beats: Awake. Alive. You realize that before this moment you were dead. But now you live. Chemicals flow through your veins. Your heart pumps adrenaline throughout your body. Your chakras are unlocked. The pineal gland releases enlightnment fluids that touch every cell of your being. And you are complete. All of mankinds potential has come together and has been crammed into your fragile human body. The entirety of the suns energy has been pounded into you and you look like you might explode at any moment but you dont. And just like that its over. Well not really. There are still 5 tracks to go. And they're good tracks let me assure you. But you will know them soon enough. Music really shouldn't be written with words anyways. |
