5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect medicine for Nintendo DS top screen worst illness
We bought this top screen replacement for our daughter's Nintendo DS. This is the second time we have to buy one, since she is a very active girl, thus her DS must necessarilly go according (DS dropped from the top of a tree, left out in the rain, etc.). The two times we have bought this replacement (I don't remember if it was from the same seller), it has worked great...

My husband had to sauder a few of the small connections. It also took longer than expected, about 3 hours from start to finish. However, it was worth the time it took. My son woke up Christmas morning and was amazed that Santa found his broken DS, fixed it and managed to repackage and wrap it all in his trip down the chimney.

We bought this top screen replacement for our daughter's Nintendo DS. This is the second time we have to buy one, since she is a very active girl, thus her DS must necessarilly go according (DS dropped from the top of a tree, left out in the rain, etc.). The two times we have bought this replacement (I don't remember if it was from the same seller), it has worked great. WE TAKE THE DS TO A TECHNICIAN, FROM A WELL KNOWN STORE THAT PERFORMS THIS KIND OF REPAIR. DO NOT TRY to install it yourself, as we have read that an inexpert person is very likely to damage the very delicate parts of the replacement. I will suggest this, even if you consider yourself a person with some experience with electronic devices.

About this seller, I must say that the delivery was on time, in perfect condition, with a great price. Highly recommended.

I broke the ribbon cable on my ds lite and i bought this, (and already had a tri wing screwdriver) and fixed it!

Things you will need:
-Basic soldering skills (ones you'd learn in shop class)
-a soldering iron
-solder (obviously!)
-tri wing screw driver
-small phillips head screwdriver
-tweezers/small box cutter
- This video:

(it is 1/3 videos, just look on the side it should have the next one)

This video is a step by step instruction of how to disassemble and fix your ds lite top screen. pause it when necessary and be very patient and careful! It shouldn't be very hard as long as you can solder a few little dots onto the ribbon cable to connect the speakers!

good luck!

Screen was a little dinged up so I question if it was actually new but it worked perfectly and was very inexpensive. Moderate difficulty repair requires tri-wing screwdriver and soldering to a ribbon cable.

I have quite a few complaints for this product. First complaint, the replacement screen I received was badly scratched upon being received. I e-mailed the company and they were nice enough to mail me another screen, but that one was also really badly scratched. They were nice enough to give me my money back and all, but it was really a pain and the replacements were really bad quality. Although this isn't really the fault of just this lister, once I had the screen and tried to disassemble my old DS I discovered that you need a sauntering tool to actually replace it because the speakers are attached. I'm only upset here because I also bought a small screwdriver from the same vendor and was lead to believe that was the only tool I needed.

This replacement screen worked out perfectly! It takes some steady hands and you can't be in a hurry, but it can be done! My only wish would be for an option to choose a color frame stick-on cover so the screen can match your NDSL. Here is my favorite URL for a YouTube demo of opening up the NDSL:

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't even go there!, October 20, 2007

There is a video that explains how to disassemble the DS Lite on YOUTUBE.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRzTgfo2PsM&eurl=http://www.nds-central.com/
This video is pretty good on disassembly. However, reassembly is another story. Unless you REALLY know what you are doing, don't even attempt it, as you will probably be disappointed with the results. You must be careful not to touch the gold-plated connectors with your fingers, because contact corrosion from the salt in your fingertips will eventually occur. You should wear a ground-strap to prevent electrostatic discharge, otherwise damage to the very sensitive electronic components may occur (especially in the Winter). The black display snap connectors are EXTREMELY delicate, and while it is pretty easy to release the connectors with your fingernails, it can be a challenge to put them tightly back in again. If you twist the video cable too tightly when feeding it through the sleeve that joins the upper and lower screen, you will most likely damage it at the micro level and your display will show you this after you have finished reassembly. I can go on and on, but at the end of the day, unless you are REALLY good with micro parts, have a clean, well-lit work space, all of the right tools, and a great deal of patience, the unit will most likely never boot up perfectly again. I know, and have a pile of parts to prove it.
It is better to let someone who has had extensive experience in disassembly and reassembly with the DS Lite change out your screens and cases. Your call, however. This is probably why Nintendo discourages home repairs.
