Visually appealing introduction to Moses & the Exodus,
By
This review is from: Exodus (Hardcover)
While this 32 page condensation of the story of Moses and the Exodus gleaned from the latter chapters of the book of Genesis and the entire book of Exodus in the Bible is rather dry and matter-of-fact, it serves as a good framework for award-winning children's book illustrator, Brian Wildsmith, to interpret key scenes and events from the biblical account with his distinctive pen and watercolor paintings.Let this colorful book serve as a visually appealing introduction for your children to the rich and more compelling account found in the Bible, as well as other children's Bible storybooks. The text of the Ten Commandments can be found on the endpapers of this gilded book, depicted on the side of Wildsmith's illustration of the Ark of the Covenant. Be sure to check out Brian Wildsmith's companion book, "Joseph."

"...vivid, richly detailed illustrations, Bill Wildsmith ...,

...captures all the major events of this powerful and exciting tale..." as stated on the dust jacket of this gorgeous book! The gold leaf is striking. The illustrations are just beautiful! I have been in the library business for over 26 years, and I can not recall such a (and I hesitate to use this word but it sure does suit the description) "pretty" book! My husband and I have been to Egypt and the drawings wonderfully illustrate the splendor and glory of this land rich with history. For our library summer program of ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS and THEIR CULTURES, I used this book to show just how the temples originally looked decorated in all those array of colours. It is so detailed, one surely can appreciate the time and effort that went into creating such a masterpiece! I ordered this book for our Children's Room Library back in February and as to date, 26 times it has been used. I am ordering more copies as it sure will come in handy during the high holy days in September!
One surely can appreciate the time and effort that went into creating such a masterpiece which captures the splendor and glory of this powerful tale!

This review is from: Exodus (Hardcover)
If your child likes to look at art, this is the book to buy to introduce him or her to the story of the Exodus in the Bible. It will definitely capture their attention. Brian Wildsmith is a great illustrator with his rich colors and incredible detail. I bought a copy of this for our church's library and recommend it for any public or private library. It will surely become a classic.

Magnificent artwork,

This picture book is a very good choice for parents who want their children to become familiar with Moses, Egypt, and the exodus. The illustrations are well done. I especially like Wildsmith's illustrations of the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire guiding the Hebrews day and night. The wording of the commandments on the end pages varies from the familiar King James Bible. For example: Wildsmith's says: "You must not steal" instead of "Thou shalt not steal."

I'm an illustration fanatic, and this book offers intricate details and a rich creativity that captivates the readers. The cover, featuring city portals and a causeway lined with sphinxes under a crescent moon, sets the tone for the entire book. The inner cover offers the Ten Commandments printed on the Ark of the Covenant.
Illustrates the book of Exodus from Baby Moses in the rushes, to his fleeing Egypt with a price on his head, to the burning bush (sensational illustration), the return to Egypt, the 10 plagues (well-done and not too gruesome), the lamb's blood on the doorposts, the Hebrews leaving Egypt, the pillar of cloud, the pillar of fire, the parting of the Red Sea, manna, quail, water fro the rock, the fiery mountantop, the golden calf, the ten commandments (again, an exciting interpretation of God), the death of Moses, and the entry into the Promised Land. Could not have been done better. Majestic. Only thing missing is the snake on the stick. |
