When all of Bob Marley and the Wailers island albums were rereleased except Exodus I knew there was a reason. It's all quite simple now since the Deluxe edition hss been released. For starters on the first disc you get the 10 songs from the original album which are great, and have been reviewed tima and time again. Time acutally called it the album of the Century. But then you get the bonus tracks. "Roots" is a really good song, the alternate version of "Waiting in Vain" is better than the original in my opinion, and as far as the other versions of "Jamming" any true reggae fan loves a good dub so that's killer, as is the dub of "Exodus"

Then we get to the live section which i think has better versions of songs than "Babylon By Bus", which has always been my personal favorite album. "War/No More Trouble", "Jamming", and "Exodus" are just simply phenominal.

Next is the "Punky Reggae Party" with the dub version, finally a way to get the original studio version of this song, which until now was very hard to do. Also there's the "Keep On Moving" which has always been a great song.

I consider this to be the best reissue of all the BMW material thus far this year, though "Burnin'" and "Catch a Fire (2CD) were also really good. I just wish now all the original Jamacian versions of BMW Island albums would be released. It's just amazing how many of these albums are sold, despite the fact that Bob Marley passed away nearly 20 years ago.

Buy this double disc set and be happy!!!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars includes the real 'long version' of Punky Reggae Party..., February 4, 2005
This review is from: Exodus (Dlx) (Dig) (Audio CD)
This package, the 'deluxe' edition of the masterful 'Exodus' album by Marley and the Wailers, finally includes the complete nine minute and eighteen second, original version of the Lee Perry/Bob Marley collaboration 'Punky Reggae Party', recorded over two months in July/August 1977. (The single disc edition of 'Exodus' which includes 'Punky Reggae Party' says 'long version ' but it is not, lasting only six minutes before it is edited to a close, before Marley's chilling jazz scatting is complete) For this gem of collaborative genius this 'deluxe' package is worth the high price; just a bit of helpful info on this day, the 60th anniversary of Bob Marley's birth.

5.0 out of 5 stars the Movement of Jah People........, February 21, 2005
This review is from: Exodus (Dlx) (Dig) (Audio CD)
Exodus (the movement of JAH People) was time magazine's album of the century, that should say enough right there. But if you are not convinced buy it and you will be for sure. This album was released in 1977, and was recorded in London England. Bob Marley and members of the band survived an attempted assination in December of 1976, and went into self imposed exile in London. Here the creativity of the band is quite good, and many of the Songs that you know by Bob Marley and the Wailers appear on this disc. Jamming, Exodus, One Love, Three Little Birds, and Waiting In Vain. All the tracks are great on this disc and you can hear for the first time in all of the Wailers recordings that the quality of the recording equipment here is much better. The dummer's (Carlton Barrett) high hat never came through so clear. This album marks the intro of Junior Marvin (lead guitar)to the band. The band was about to gain superstar status and this album marks the beginning.
The second disc features some live tracks from the 1977 tour and the songs slected for the release happen to be from the 1977 Rainbow theater concerts, which will also be availble on dvd very soon. The live performances really come through and prove that the band has a tremendous vibe live and that while in concert they most certainly bring their best. the Lee Perry tracks are rather rare and are very nice to listen to. the booklet that comes with the cd can provide more insight into them and how they came to be, but just know that it is not the Wailers backing Bob on them, rather musicians from other bands. At the end is a Bob Marley promotion of the album for radio which is really nice to hear. If you are questioning yourself about this set or the single disc edition, this set offers a more diverse selection, and the bonus tracks and bonus disc are really a great addition tot he album of the century.

a college favorite i never grew tired of. of course, i couldn't possibly complain about an entire album's worth of bonus tracks, its meticulous 24bit remastering and it's superb packaging could i?

remastered reissues are often considered poor excuses for record companies to make money.

i don't have problems with this one this time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable. Not just another pretty repackage., September 30, 2004
This review is from: Exodus (Dlx) (Dig) (Audio CD)
Recently all my CDs were stolen, among them a massive collection of Marley CDs. I can now say I'm glad it happened because if it hadn't I wouldn't have begun to purchase the deluxe editions of Exodus, Catch A Fire, Rastaman Vibration, Legend, and Burnin. Exodus is the best of the deluxe editions. The sound quality, packaging, etc. are incredible. However, the best thing about the CD, which it seems the other reviewers thought so too, was the series of live songs that overlap on CD 2. It's how the Marley and the Wailer's music was meant to be heard. I loved how the songs overlapped into really one long number rather than different songs and how they exchanged words between songs. After becoming a little weary of BM and the Wailer's music because of listening to so many studio tracks I can say that I'm now back to listening to Marley everyday. CD 1 was really strong as well, especially Roots, which came through beautifully. It's great to see Island Records really putting in some effort to creating a NEW and improved release rather than just tracks in a different order and a pretty package.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Popular Music's Greatest Recordings, October 25, 2001
This review is from: Exodus (Dlx) (Dig) (Audio CD)
A classic Bob Marley album gets the royal treatment with the release of this newly remastered and expanded addition of his masterpiece Exodus. Present on this famous recording are all of what makes Marley one of music's greatest artists. All of his styles are represented here and it never disappoints the listener. From the free jam of Jammin'to the politic statements of the title track to the friendly chants of Three Little Birds, Exodus is one those special recordings. It is still fresh, with a sound and style that feels like it was recorded yesterday. With the addition of a second disc, the listener gets live cuts and other remixes, but in the end the original material is what really shines. One of Marley's best. Highly recommended to any
Marley fan and to anyone who has never purchased an album from him, this is where to start. Let the music live on, and let it satisfy your soul. Essential to any music collection.

Like so many artists of the pasts, their record labels keep crankin' out product. At least in Marley's case, they keep getting better. As a collector, I really look forward to a new release from Island/Tuff gong. The stellar production and bonus tracks are a real treat. My only wish is that a full length recording, such as Pittsburg '80, would be released.

Exodus was a crowing achievement for the Wailers. Bob certainly reached the top of the Mountain.

5.0 out of 5 stars A healing power remastered, October 17, 2001
This review is from: Exodus (Dlx) (Dig) (Audio CD)
There are so many great things about Exodus. . .I think this album has been eclipsed by the popular greatest hits collections over the years, but it stands as a monument to love and peace and righteousness. Great thing #1. This is another of Universals top of the line"Deluxe Edition" reissues. That means great packaging, additional liner notes, and digital remastering. Listening to this Jammin' compared to my 1989 Legend version is like day and night. This totally pops. Great thing #2. The liner notes. The notes reground the album in the political and personal events in Marley's life. Its important to remember that these songs were written right after his assassination attempt. . .and after Rita was injured. These love songs are for her. And for Jamaica which was ripping apart. I think the assassination attempt also inserted a sense of urgency to many of these tracks. The notes also reminds us how Junior Marvin (BRILLIANT!) joined Marley at this time, and how his funky background may have influenced Exodus. And finally, the notes reconnect Marley with musical touchstone Lee "Scratch" Perry, mostly on the additional tracks. Great Thing #3. The Additional Tracks. The live tracks from the Rainbow are the best. This band cooked like few others of the era. I had heard the Punky Reggae Party tracks before on bootlegs, but here they are pristine. The final track thrown on is the original radio ad for Exodus. Uni did this for Marvin Gaye and other albums in the Deluxe series and I like this. It takes me back to 77/78 and WPLJ! (who played marley on saturday nights I seem to recall.)
This is a beautiful funky album - Marley's best in my opinion. This edition is a must have for Reggae fans and for Marley devotees.
"The thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." Bob Marley.

This review is from: Exodus (Dlx) (Dig) (Audio CD)
5 stars for this (after all it's Bob). Can someone tell me how to actually get this deluxe edition? I have tried Amazon (twice) and another reseller. I keep receiving the correct packaging but wrong disc. Exedus packaging but 'legend' discs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deluxe is right!, April 7, 2004
This review is from: Exodus (Dlx) (Dig) (Audio CD)
This CD is incredible. The "Deluxe Edition" series seems to have hit the nail on the head. The sound is excellent, and the extra tracks actually add to the experience. This is one awesome CD.

I also recommend "Mississippi Muddy Waters Liver" Deluxe Edition.
