5.0 out of 5 stars his Royal Badness is gone all there's left is New Power Soul
I did not Expect This Album to be this good without Prince, The only time you Really Hear Prince is on Gags Where he sounds like he's an italian from the sopranos, and some signature screeches on Count the Days,
This C.D. Really brings the funk! even better then the previous NPG CD Gold N*GGA...

1.0 out of 5 stars Only for Have to Have Everything Prince is On
If one listens to this closely, you can hear Prince all over the place on this album, and it's likely he wrote all the music outside of the segues and the raps. Like New Power Soul, the other so-called New Power Generation only album, this one lacks virtually everything a good Prince album contains. There are no hooks in the melodies, the raps are ridiciulous, the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Only for Have to Have Everything Prince is On, May 1, 2010

If one listens to this closely, you can hear Prince all over the place on this album, and it's likely he wrote all the music outside of the segues and the raps. Like New Power Soul, the other so-called New Power Generation only album, this one lacks virtually everything a good Prince album contains. There are no hooks in the melodies, the raps are ridiciulous, the profanity is ridiculous and typical for this style of music at this time period.

The only people who'll really get into this, and I doubt it'll spin much on their CD players, are people who have to have everything Prince is involved with. If you can find a cheap used copy, go for it, otherwise forget about it. I've owned it for almost 15 years and each time I listen to it, which has been three times, I realize why it's been sitting in my CD collection more as a token than as something worth listening to.

I have been enjoying this CD! I am sorry I did not get it sooner. I don't like the spoken interludes between each song but the songs are great! The Exodus Has Begun is the jam!! Thanks Prince and the NPG!!!

If you're into FUNKY PRINCE music, then this is for you!PRINCE AND THE NPG give it up on this album. I would consider myself a FUNKATEER, and this album can hold it's own with the best of them! The songs are well written, produced and of course, the band really get's down, nasty and FUNKY on this entire album! The funk on this is so stanky, you can smell it from Minneapolis! Add this to your collection, it's sure to become a classic.

I have long awaited to hear this CD. Many years ago I was given a tape of this material & never had any luck finding this on disc until this past month. I LOVE the storyline on this piece of work by the NPG. Cherry Cherry & Count the Days are some of the best tracks, but really everthing on it is terrific. This is timeless stuff, something that I will listen to for many many years. One for the true diehards. Live 4 Love.

5.0 out of 5 stars FLAVORICIOUS!, March 7, 1999

Lots of flavor and delicious! What a concept! This hand clappin, finger snappin funk CD is a must have for people who enjoy genuine creativity. The title track, "Exodus", sticks in my head and sounds like a grand finale concert of NPG on stage accomplishing great work in the studio. NPG's song, "Get Your House In Order", really got my groove in order. That song reminded me of what we as a people should be doing; self examinations. The vibe clearly is a reflection of morality through the use of funk music. This is classic funk material. Get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Prince than Prince, July 15, 2001

Released in the heat of the period were The Artist was in conflict with his label, this is for me the best piece that he ever appeared on. U don't hear Prince. U feel Prince. U feel the joy. This Exodus is a real experience. All songs are tight together by intermediary scenes that make it more real, lively, organic. Yes, the guys had fun. I wish fun always turned in2 such masterpieces. There's "the Good Life" - a typical funky chart like song, but also many real special artworks with a unique sound: The Exodus Has Begun, Return Of The Bump Squad. And some sweet ones of excellent quality: Hallucination Rain, Count The Days. Man, I wish The Artist made more of this kind with his friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars A funky Prince album, with no Prince and a too much talk., July 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Exodus (Audio CD)
Do you like Prince and the Mineapolis sound? Then you'll like this one. It's a fullhearted, funny, funky Prince album, except Prince is appearing incognito and is only to be sensed. But not to worry, the NPG does a great job. For instance a song like "Hallucination Rain" is unforgettable with its woodstock-hippie-like guitar solo. There are a lot of high quality songs. There's only one major drawback- all the talk. It seems like the guys have had a lot of fun making the album, but the jokes and gags aren't as funny the third time you play the record.
