Shatner Rocks the Bible,
By Bella Miriam "musicmaven" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Exodus: An Oratorio in Three Parts (Audio CD)
You really have to hear this to believe it. If you are a Star Trek fan or an Pop Culture Fan or a Bible Toting Trekkie with a 'tude.... this is a must have item.
All of Shatners joy in life and personality comes shining through... The meaning in every word resonates because you are getting the word of G-d from a great orator. How fun to watch an old episode of Star Trek with the kids and then flip this on. The Bible as read by Cap'n Kirk...what could be bad about that? Enjoy!

William Shatner still the Captain leading the Exodus,
This review is from: Exodus: An Oratorio in Three Parts (Audio CD)
I was watching William Shatner on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and I heard Mr. Shatner talk about his new CD "Exodus."
Being the huge William Shatner fan that I am, I immediately had to purchase this CD. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed the "Exodus" CD. Shatner's reading of "Exodus" would make both Charlton Heston and God proud! I highly recommend this fantastic CD!

William Shatner's "Exodus" was one of the most uplifting, inspirational CD's that I have listened to in a very long time!
I felt like I was right there in the live audience with all the actors, musicians and of course Bill Shatner! The music and singers are just amazing. This is a great CD for fans of William Shatner, but also people that are interested in the book of "Exodus."

Finally on Amazon!!!!,

This review is from: Exodus: An Oratorio In Three Parts (MP3 Download)
I am so excited to see that this finally is available!!! I was in the chorus for this production with the Arkansas Symphony...I've been trying to get my hands on the recorded copy. It's hard to fully appreciate an opus and the effect(s) of the narration, even when read by the noted William Shatner, when you are only privy to focusing on your vocal part. Thank you, Amazon, for adding this to your list of available selections!

A Perfect Performance: This Type of Work is Made for Shatner,
By
This review is from: Exodus: An Oratorio in Three Parts (Audio CD)
I have listened to the CD a number of times now and I believe that this type of work is made for Bill Shatner. His reading in the Shatner style of clear enunciation and pronunciation with his dramaticism and the powerful music accompaniment elicits a profound appreciation for God and His Bible. I think Bill should do this for other stories in the Bible. He knows where to put the emphasis on words and how to dramatize and make the Bible come to life straight from his own lips. One does not need to watch a video of this, for the words and the music create the scenes and convey the emotions straight from the CD into your ears. It is awesome! He WILL need to do this for other stories in the Bible. He WILL be disappointed if he does not and he WILL disappoint me if he does not use this gift that God has given him.

True, the huge face and name of Shatner dominating the cover seems a bit over the top. But his narration really is the reason this oratorio is worth hearing and probably the only reason it was released on CD. The choirs and soloist sing well enough and the orchestra plays okay. The music only rarely achieves any great beauty or dramatic effect. Whereas the beautiful music of Handel or Mendelssohn can make scripture sound quite convincing, modern music like this only makes the archaic thoughts of the old testmament sound utterly unbelievable. But the voice of Shatner is quite believable. This is not Captain Kirk talking here. His concluding call for peace is the best part of the entire work.

Always a pleasure to hear the Captain pontificate. No one emotes like Bill. Great musical setting for this ancient tale of escape and redemption.

A Perfect Trifecta,
This review is from: Exodus: An Oratorio in Three Parts (Audio CD)
Truly inspirational, the work of William Shatner and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra is a perfect merging of music and the spoken word to bring the powerful message from the second book of the Jewish Torah and of the Christian Old Testament on Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt and through the wilderness to the Mountain of God.
The music is written by David Itkin and also features a 350 member choral group. The recording is taken from a pair of April 2005 shows at the Robinson Center Music Hall in Little Rock. There is a synergy between the performers and audience that makes the concert very special and this CD a unique artistic statement. |
