Though John Boorman's original vision for the sequel may be lost forever, leaving us with the mess today that goes by the title of EXORCIST 2: THE HERETIC, the best thing to come out of the whole experience was one of the most haunting themes composed by Morricone, the last of the old-style film scoring masters. The score is actually much better than the film it was written for, and even helps redeem the film in some ways. (The hilariously over-the-top disco version of "Pazuzu's Theme" is forgiveable, considering how bad the film itself is.) For the beauty of the Main Title and "Suspended Melody," though, the purchase of this soundtrack is definitely worth it.

Finally available...,

Finally available! While the movie was laughed at due to it's mishmash script and un-convincing acting. The only memorable element that came out from the whole thing was the soundtrack. "Pazuzu (Theme From The Exorciste II)" & "Interrupted Melody" still sound haunting today. This is one of Ennio Morricone best works, and I'm glad that it's been re-released and remastered.Give it a shot!

Whatever complaints I might have about the movie (and trust me, there's a bunch) they can all be tossed out the window when it comes to the excellent soundtrack the movie had. I wasn't really feeling any fear from the musical themes or atmospheric bits while watching the second Exorcist movie, but I found them highly enjoyable all the same. To me, just hearing good music is more important than how much it fits in with the storyline in the movie. This can be said for ALL soundtracks to ALL movies.

I orginally had the vinyl copy and played it to death so I am very happy to have a CD copy to enjoy. It took long enough to have it released and I was never sure if it would since the soundtrack to the original "Exorcist" has never been released domestically. You can only get a Japanese import copy that is expensive for a single CD. Anyways, I'm one of those few that actually loves the film "Exorcist II: The Heretic", so needless to say that I would love the soundtrack. But even if you have problems with the film, the music does stand on its own as a great work of art. Morricone obviously put a lot of effort in capturing the essence of Regan's continual battle with good and evil as well as capturing the landscape of Ethiopia and its relationship with its religion, both the light and the dark sides. I never understand why people connect "Pazuzu's Theme" with disco as it isn't a dance piece but reflects the choas of the Assyrian demon of the Southwestern winds, Pazuzu, that brings famine and locusts. "Magic and Ecstacy" also reflects this. Anyways, very happy to have my copy and if you are into great music from films then this needs to be added to your library.
