Exo-Squad,
By A Customer
This review is from: Exosquad: Pirate Scourge [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a very well done cartoon, the closest thing to an Anime series I have ever seen. Like Gundam or Robotech, it is about a culture at war. The human race is fighting against a race of creatures much like ourselves, the Neosapiens. They were artificial pantrophied (gene-altered) sterile cloned humanoids created by humanity as a smart and strong blue-skinned slave race that rebelled against their treatment. Then under Marsalla, their charismatic leader, they turned the tables on humanity and enslaved them while creating a speciecentric fascist state. The best part is that the Neosapiens are complex personalities, not just fascist cannon-fodder. The Exo-squad is one squad, part of a force of toyetic (this series is, after all, designed to pimp a toy line) battle-suited (combat exoskeleton-frame)human commandos, part of the free human fleet, who fight the Neosapeins in a war for control of the solar system. One of the Squad is a Neosapien who fights his own kind because he believes that his people are committing a greater wrong for perpetuating the racist specieism that opressed them to begin with. The plots were well written and had some very dramatic moments for a cartoon; the second season was especially well done, as it was about the end of the war and how the thorny problem of what to do with the Neosapiens was resolved. The third season would have introduced a new enemy with extremely advanced technology that the Humans and Neosapiens would fight together but the show was cancelled. It would be quite a DVD set.

That about sums it up. This is by far one of the greatest shows ever made. Animated or otherwise. I suggest that everyone should see this series. I guarantee that you will not be disapointed. The only problem is that Universal only released the first season(13 episodes) on video. If there was ever a show that derserved to have every episode released to own, this is definately on the top of the list. Exosquad would make a wonderful dvd boxed set or something along those lines. Sometimes I wonder if Universal knows what a great thing they have sitting on their shelves.

The first episode of one of the best cartoon series ever.,
This review is from: Exosquad: Pirate Scourge [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Imagine a huge novel set in the future. This novel is then turned into a word-for-word tv adaptation. This series contains well written characters, tremendous animation, terrific music, and actual feelings of excitement, fear, love, hate, revenge, and an epic feel. That is Exosquad, a very memorable cartoon series that is better than most live action shows, and is in the same league and style of Robotech. Buy this tape, which contains the first episode. Like the greatest book you have ever read, you will not want to put it down.
