An abbreviated version of Robert Drasnin's Voodoo!, April 22, 1999

This is the same music available on Robert Drasnin's Voodoo! reissue, with two songs deleted. The sound quality on this disc is improved, however.
These songs are Exotica classics! If you love Martin Denny, Les Baxter, or Arthur Lyman, you'll love this album!

Quintessentail Exotica For Any Tiki Bar, March 24, 2010

Dark red lights, the smell of fine rum, palm thatching, bamboo and this album make the perfect tiki environment. THis is actually Drasnin's "Voodoo" album (also released on CD), but missing two tracks. The up side is that this CD was created directly from the master tapes. The "Voodoo" CD release was created from a virgin vinyl master. The audio quality on both is fine, but this one is just a tiny bit cleaner. The down side is the missing tracks.
The music on this CD is textbook examples of exotica music of the 50's and 60's. One can't help but think of dark tiki bars and tiki toches blazing in the night. THis is a very relaxing album of instrumentals. The small combo/orchestra is used with great care to create a very intimate sound. Side note: The piano player is none other than John Williams--yes THE John Williams who later went on to score Star Wars, Jaws and many other great films. I can't recommend this album enough
NOTE: by the time I wrote this review the CD had gone out of print and is getting increasingly hard to find. If you find it, get it! This is an essential addition to any exotica collection.
