5.0 out of 5 stars Dog Fashion Disco Meets Unified Culture
What can I say? This is a great collaboration. It consists of Todd SMith(vocals, Dog Fashion Disco), Jeff Siegel(keyboards, Dog Fashion Disco), The Martini brothers(Guitar and Bass Guitar, Unified Culture) Matt Rippetoe(Flutes, sax's etc. he did work on DFD's albums over the years) and Jason Popson(Vocals, formerly of Mushroomhead, 216, Unified Culture and others). 3.0 out of 5 stars Great if you like Ska and Scream-o
ok so i got this cd because J Mann from Mushroomhead is one of the singers. BUT, it sounds like a mixture of the beach boys and a scream-o band.

i do like this cd but i would say to check it out before you purchase.

This album is very eclectic. It is mellower than Dog Fashion Disco and Mushroomhead. Todd Smith takes on most of the melodic singing cause hes good at it. Jason Popson does the awesome screaming, spoken-word stuff. I cant really describe the style of music this is but its got elements of metal, funk, jazz, and other exotic flavors.....right off the bat I can say that if you are a fan of Dog Fashion Disco then get it. If you like Mr. Bungle, Tub Ring, Nuclear Rabbit and the likes then get it! This cd is worth repeated listens....big time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound!!!!!, February 4, 2006
I Enjoy all types of rock, nu-metal, as well as heavy and progressive metal music, so I am not looking for one particular type of music but rather talented musicians. The Alter Boys are just that, very creative and talented.Their sound is a blend of all types of music with a jazz feel. What surprises me with them is that the tracks are very melodic and not disjointed with smooth transition when blending these sounds. If I had to make a comparison to another band I would say if you enjoy the masterful music from Faith No More (with a touch more humor), You would most likely like the Alter Boys. Check them out you can't go wrong. I wish them a long career as they fill a crtical need in what I consider a stagnent music culture. Everyone is beginning to sound the same in their own genre. These guys are a breath of fresh air!!! Keep Up the great work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the Year.... so far, May 24, 2005
Spectacular debut album. Any fans of experimental music HAVE to go to a store and buy this right now! Covers almost any genre of music you can think of and blends it together perfectly. I've always been a fan of DFD and the other related bands, but this is probably better than any of them. Will very possibly be the best album of the year, unless of course Tool or Mike Patton can put out something better.

5.0 out of 5 stars album full of talent, October 18, 2005
The Alter Boys are like no other. My son who is 7 years old is even a fan!Their sound is very unique, I can't wait to see them live! I've already gotten a taste of the great talents after seeing Unified Culture live at Peebody's in Cleveland, Ohio which is another project band involving a few members of the Band Alter Boys. What a great show!Looking forward to seeing the Alter Boys in the beginning of November!

This is one of the best albums I have ever heard. It is extremely eclectic and mixes a varieety of different genres perfectly. Buy this album. My main point in writing this review is only because I felt the need to rate this masterpiece. Also has a few very amusing skits tossed in the mix. FTRC!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars What that guy said..., April 20, 2005
You can't go wrong with silky-smooth lounge vibes coupled with the "everything-but-the-kitchen-sink" philosophy so popular with the avant-jazz crowd. There's a little something for everyone on this disc.

To re-iterate the obvious to those who know the Alter Boys already: it is indeed a side-project formed by Jeff Siegel (keyboards) and Todd Smith (Vocals) of Dog Fashion Disco, as well as Jason Popson (Vocals) formerly of Mushroomhead. Ryan Dunn (of Viva La Bam) provides comedic relief as well as backup vocals throughout the album.

This album literally has it all: Popson's throaty vocals for the Mushroomhead fans, Smith's beautiful larynx at work, and Siegel's ivory-tickling, which is no laughing matter. Top it all off with a re-recording of a track from Dog Fashion Disco's long-lost first album Erotic Massage ("Where Have You Gone") as well as a cover of Tom Waits' "Yesterday Is Here," this album has enough street cred with the avant-metalheads and experimental fogies to hit a huge audience.

Add in the support of media icons like Bam and Mr. Dunn, and you've got a recipe for glory.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new generation of music that crosses several genres!, March 25, 2005
By
Screamline (Cleveland, Oh) - See all my reviews
These guys have really dedicated themselves to a whole new style of music and the risk has paid off. Never before have I heard such different music styles on one CD which have been blended together so smoothly. It's really unique and a lot of fun to listen too. The tunes are very catchy which warrants several repeat listens the same day and several days after. If you like all kinds of music, this is a must have for your collection. It has eerie keyboards, melodic horns, great guitar styles, outstanding bass and spot on drums, not to mention a nice mix up of sleek vocals and rough growls with a touch of a contrasting female voice at just the right times. I look for these guys to catch the music world by surprise. Be some of the first people on the band wagon rather than the last and buy this CD!
