5.0 out of 5 stars "Every" Imaginable Health Topic Covered in One Volume
This may not be exactly the world's biggest treasury, but it sure is comprehensive! Those who complain that this book covers information already available elsewhere miss the point: One would have to read many health-related books to distill the essence presented in this one volume. Moreover, it discusses not only intuitively-obvious topics related to health, but also such...

This review is from: Newly Expanded! The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets (Hardcover)
The "World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets" is an assortment of brief unrelated articles of varying quality and validity by authors of varying reliability who, over the years, were solicited for their advice and personal opinions. The book is disappointingly organized and contains no scientific references other than the names of the authors. And in spite of the suggestive title, I found no health or medical secrets that are hidden from the public as insinuated and also further touted by their convincing TV and Internet advertisements. There is no medical information in the book that cannot be found elsewhere, in a more comprehensive and accurate form, and in other standard health and medical books or CDs, or from high-quality medical Internet web sites, such as:

[...]

Bottom-line: I believe this health book is a very poor value for consumers. Moreover, this book is usually available in public libraries. I suggest that you check it out and read through it first. If you decide it's something you want - then buy it. If not, you've only wasted a little time borrowing it from your local public library and perusing through the book's content.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Every" Imaginable Health Topic Covered in One Volume, August 1, 2009
This review is from: Newly Expanded! The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets (Hardcover)
This may not be exactly the world's biggest treasury, but it sure is comprehensive! Those who complain that this book covers information already available elsewhere miss the point: One would have to read many health-related books to distill the essence presented in this one volume. Moreover, it discusses not only intuitively-obvious topics related to health, but also such things as emotional health, light therapy, antibacterial soap, giving advice to others, snoring, the onset of puberty, lactose intolerance, longevity, insomnia, health-wise computer use, various alternative therapies, etc.

There is varied discussion of conventional treatments. For instance, Luvox (Fluvoxamine) usually helps compulsive gamblers. The Water Pik is said to be the best adjunct to regular and prolonged tooth brushing.

Every topic in this book has its own author. Onetime Air Force doctor Kenneth Cooper, who wrote AEROBICS in 1968, now advocates non-strenuous exercise, although he himself maintains a running regimen (reminiscent of his earlier "Cooper's Poopers"). He says that a 30-minute brisk walk, done 5 times a week, constitutes sufficient exercise for the adult (pp. 375-376). Otherwise, more is not better. Excessive exercise risks injuries.

Don't assume that all supplements are useful. To test the ability of vitamins to dissolve in the intestine, one should do the vinegar-dissolution test (pp. 536--537). If a vitamin pill doesn't dissolve in vinegar heated to 100 F within 45 minutes, it won't dissolve inside you. However, proof of dissolution may not necessarily be proof of absorption in the intestine, nor of bioavailability at the cellular level.

1.0 out of 5 stars Content of no value, October 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Newly Expanded! The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets (Hardcover)
This book has been highly advertised and creates an impression of extraordinary content. After reading about 30 randomly taken pages and not finding ANYTHING of real valuable content I decided to recycle it. Maybe I was expecting an in-deep, reasonable scientific articles and found that the book has about 2500 short articles of very shallow content, sometimes banal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Will-Could-Might-Doesn't, January 4, 2010
By
This review is from: Newly Expanded! The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets (Hardcover)
This is pure fraud. They start out by using words like "it will", but when you read further it becomes "could". This is a collection of all the current fads that are out there and if you follow their advice, they might do something for you. Take the ""miracle molecule" that could make bypass surgery, angioplasty and blood pressure drugs obsolete. Yes, the good doctor did make several discoveries that show how thrombosites are involved in heart disease, but then then he goes into "fad 'alternative medicine" as to how to help the circulatory system fight off such heart failures. It's the same with all the other "amazing" cures. What a scam!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book!, September 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Newly Expanded! The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets (Hardcover)
I buy several self-help books a year on just about any subject. Most books have one or two little tidbits that are useful and I love finding a new approach to old problems. This book is awful from the first page to the last. Just a compilation of random crap that contradicts itself constantly. There is no outlining theme, editing, or even any sort of intelligent thought (my 14 year old niece could right a better book).

I will save you from ordering this utter mess and summarize the book in one coherent thought: "Eat right, exercise, and take your vitamins."

My only saving grace is that I bought a used copy and only spent a couple of bucks.

1.0 out of 5 stars The World's Greatest Treasurey of Health Secrets, August 5, 2009
This review is from: Newly Expanded! The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets (Hardcover)
This book did not really give any good information. I was really disappointed, it tells you information but does not go into detail on remedies etc. So it really does not do what it advertises, Give you natural healing information.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Reference Book, August 6, 2009
This review is from: Newly Expanded! The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets (Hardcover)
I recently bought this book to serve as a refence for potential future health issues that I may encounter. I prefer "natural" solutions to improving my health, so this gives me good information for that purpose. If you're interested in guidance on alternative and preventitive measures to improve your health, this is a good book to have.

1.0 out of 5 stars BOOK NOT SENT, then COLLECTION ACTION BEGAN, June 25, 2010
This review is from: Newly Expanded! The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets (Hardcover)
This Book is supposedly sent my Bottom Line Books, directly to the buyer. I ordered it through Amazon, then about a month later I started getting bills from Bottom Line Books, but they NEVER SENT THE BOOK. Now they have turned me over to North Shore Agency, a colleciton agency, and when I notified them that I did not receive the book, they continuted collection action any way. Bottom Line Books is dishonest, (so is NORTH SHORE AGENCY). They should not be allowed to sell on Amazon.com. Wisdom says one should not place an order if Bottom Line Books is involved in the transacion.

1.0 out of 5 stars More quackery, January 29, 2010
This review is from: Newly Expanded! The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets (Hardcover)
Huckster Hugh Downs is at it again. The book is misleading and if used as a guide for physician treatment would constitute medical malpractice. There is nothing here that has not been available in other sources. Sources such as Quackwatch have advised against unscientific compilations such as these. Save your money.
