Book Description

February 9, 2003
Using a biblical, strategic plan, this book presents a dynamic, effective plan for planting churches. It presents God's heart for kingdom expansion-planting local churches. Herron discusses characteristics and methods of successful church planters. He thoroughly diagrams how a potential church planter can survey a community with the intent of developing a heart for the community, how to plan strategically, and how to pray strategically. Also included are keys to effective church planting-strategic planning, gathering the core group, reaching the lost, structuring for disciple-making, and developing leaders. Common pitfalls are also discussed. Expanding God's Kingdom Through Church Planting is a book to be read, reread and shared. It deserves a "front row seat" on a bookshelf. Herron writes, "This book was written to provide a high-quality guidebook for church planters, churches that plant churches, schools that teach church planting, and denominational or post-denomination leaders that over church planting."

4.0 out of 5 stars A Challenging Book for Church Planters with New Concepts, February 26, 2011

This review is from: Expanding God's Kingdom through Church Planting (Paperback)
Of the making of many books on church planting there is no lack today. Here is another written by an experienced pioneer in starting new churches. So let's see what we can learn from him.

The book is in three parts: 1) Biblical Foundations for Church Planting; 2) The Church Planter and the Field, and 3) Keys to Effective Church Planting.

One of the most valuable parts of this book is the first section, "Biblical Foundations for Church Planting" which deals with God's heart and method and then the need and power for expansion. Herron points out the need for the Holy Spirit's power in planting new churches - an important emphasis which can be neglected.

This book brings out an aspect of church planting that I have never fully considered before and that is what the author calls "Evaluating Your Equity." He elaborates, "By `equity,' I mean the level of spiritual authority and influence the church planter has in the context of the community in which he or she is establishing the church. A sober evaluation of equity will help the church planter establish appropriate growth expectations." (111) On pages 112 to 113 he discusses six levels of what he calls equity going from E1 to E6. This is a new challenge for church planting strategy that needs more looking into.

So buy a copy of this book and see how this works out for you.
