Book Description

November 11, 2008
Stitch your way through the nine months of pregnancy—and have the best-dressed baby on the block!

Whether you already love knitting, or are eager to learn to knit so you can whip up adorable outfits for your soon-to-arrive baby, The Expectant Knitter is the perfect companion for all stages of your pregnancy. Sharing 30 projects arranged by trimester (simpler patterns for the first and third, when fatigue or discomfort may get in the way of nimble knitting, and more ambitious patterns for the feel-good second), Marie Connolly also offers practical tips and information about your pregnancy and your baby. At each step—and stitch—of the way, you'll find reminders to take your folic acid, helpful hints on which tests to get when, instructions on how to properly swaddle an infant, and suggestions for combating morning sickness.

Starting with conception, when you’re quietly dreaming of and planning your pregnancy, you’ll learn to knit beautiful pieces like a Christening Gown or a Knitted Pinwheel Quilt. Come the end of the first trimester, you can move on to Her First Party Dress, a Cashmere Romper, and Alphabet Block Toys. When you’re loving your bump in the second trimester, work on the Shawl Collar Sweater or a Big Sister, Big Brother, or Dog sweater for the other loves in your life. Then the waiting game begins, so bide your time in the third trimester knitting itty bitty baby socks, wee washcloths and bibs, and a Shawl Sweater for Mom (you, too, deserve something special).

The ultimate knitter’s guide to pregnancy, The Expectant Knitter is a treasure of delightful patterns that will make for beautiful keepsake items, enhanced by sidebars with sound information on the growth of your baby at each stage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book If You Enjoy Knitting For Babies, July 31, 2010
This review is from: The Expectant Knitter: 30 Designs for Baby and Your Growing Family (Hardcover)
This is a great book for beginner level on up if you are looking for nice classic patterns for babies. I really cannot say enough good things about the gorgeous patterns in the book. As a knitter, I have a difficult time finding books where I like more than one or two patterns. I can honestly say I would like to make majority in this book.

From the simple classic baby blanket, to the personalized pinwheel styled blanket all are unique and would be wonderful for your own child or a gift.

I personally purchased this book to make a few of the sweaters for the little girls in my life, but will preview all patterns below. The first sweater that caught my eye was a gorgeous baby cardigan that ties shut with a ribbon. There is also an adorable baby dress that turns into a shirt for up to a 3-4 year old as she grows, and a wonderful ballet neck sweater for a toddler to age 8 pattern.

Unlike many other books that I have considered purchasing this book also has some really cute boy patterns as well. The simple cable knit sweater vest, and hooded "big brother" sweater, and brimmed summer hat are my favorites for the boys.

Diaper covers, leg warmers, summer rompers for both boys and girls, a winter romper, pants and coordinating tops for boys and girls, christening gown, socks, hats, knit toys, washcloths, diaper covers and even a dog sweater complete this book.

Truly a must have if you enjoy knitting baby gifts (and for toddlers too).

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Expectant Knitter: 30 Designs for Baby and Your Growing Family (Hardcover)
I loved this book it did not have as many patterns in it as I wanted it to. Well it did but a lot of them seem to be ones you can find very similar ones on line. Other than that I really liked it.
