About the Author

Jackie Brown was inspired to write this book after becoming an adoptive parent to her husband's two cats. Having never been a "cat parent" before, Jackie had a lot of learning to do. With the help of her husband and a lot of research, Jackie learned how to be the purrfect parent and decided to share her newfound knowledge with other owners who might also be facing the same cat-parenting questions. Learning about cats lead Jackie to her local cat shelter. She was motivated to write this book not only to share tips about great cat care but to encourage adoptions from cat shelters. She is an Advisory Board Member for her local shelter, S.A.F.E. Haven for Cats in Raleigh, North Carolina and has been accepted as a member of the Cat Writers' Association, Inc. When Jackie is not playing and caring for their two cats, she is busy designing original artwork and Web sites through her and her husband's business, The JBI Company, Inc.

I heard about this book because I volunteer at S.A.F.E. Haven for cats. I adopted my cat, Ocala, from the shelter the second day I was there. This is a great book to become acquainted (or re-acquainted in my case) with having a new cat come home with you. It is very cute and informative. The website for SAFE Haven actually has a picture of Sheldy, the real gray cat, along with the illustrated version. I fully recommend this book, and it's even better knowing part of the proceeds will go to no-kill shelters!
