Great for camping trips etc.

This one is not self inflating, but that's about the only real disadvantage.

This sleeping mat is rated for -40 and worked wonderfully.

My old Thermarest had served me pretty well. It was light and packable, but just too thin, especially as I get older. I was just getting to dread the actual sleeping portion of camping trips.

I'm done with backpacking, per se, but do lots of off road motorcycling to camping spots. I needed something comfortable, but it still needed to fit onto the motorcycle. I looked at the Thermarest Dreamtime: super comfortable, but enormous. Yes, it's like sleeping on a bed, but it's about like carrying one, too.

So I found this Exped. It isn't small by any stretch, but it's about a quarter of the size of the Dreamtime when it's rolled up. No problem finding a place for it on the back of my motorcycle.

It's really comfortable. It's thick enough to keep the rocks and sticks from poking through, and even the places - like hips and shoulders - that press into it, I still don't contact the ground.

There's another Exped that packs smaller than this one, and it's shape is rounded baffles like a standard old air mattress. It's gets good and small, but I found it to be kind of "wallowy" like I was going to roll off all the time. It's also about $40 more than this one.

This one is not self inflating, but that's about the only real disadvantage. (That... and it's $160. I never would have thought I'd pay that kind of money for a camping pad. But oh well... I want to sleep when I camp.)

Finally, I can't say anything about durability. I've only had it for one trip so far. But it looks bullet proof. If it doesn't stand up, I'll amend this review!

I have spent hours looking for a good sleeping solution for casual tent camping. I have gone through several air mattresses of various qualities only for them to spring a leak after several uses, so it was time to find a different product. My requirements were:
1. Durable - must be able to put up with sticks and rocks that aren't tamed by the ground pad and tent bottom, and the occasional step or two from a Labrador retriever.
2. Comfortable - I should be able to sleep the night through and wake up without my back hurting.
3. Must be easy to setup, takedown and transport.
4. Must be sized so I can sleep with the wife.

I started by seeing if there was a sleeping cot that was sized for two people - one company made them but they were designed as a tent on a cot so there was a bar between the two sides. People reviewed it as being uncomfortable if you liked to snuggle with your significant other. The air mattress offerings were all over the board in features but overall were more suited to being in a home for a slumber party then in a tent camping. Yes they work and are comfy, but they just don't last and the reviews stated that frequently. I started looking into sleeping pads to see if anything would be comfortable or if they just dulled a rock from stabbing you in the back to just being a lump in your back while sleeping. All the reviews I found had positive things to say about this product, so I took the risk and bought two of them and used the handy Velcro strips on the side of each bed to connect them.

After the few camping weekends I can say it is worth the money and exceeded my expectations. Despite being only about four inches thick the pad provides a very comfortable nights rest.

This is the best camping sleep pad I have ever used in that it kept me warm while camping in the snow. I used it for my first snow camping experience in the Mt. Hood National Forrest in Oregon. I was both excited and nervous about sleeping in the snow because frostbite is something I hope to never experience. This lead to some extensive research on developing a good sleep system. Normally, when I go camping, I use an air mattress because most sleeping pads are extremely uncomfortable. I'm not a small sized guy, but this sleeping mat was rather comfortable.

Through research I learned it is a bad idea to use an air mattress for camping in extremely low temperatures, and one should op instead for a sleeping mat with high quality form inside. This sleeping mat is rated for -40 and worked wonderfully. It was the warmest I slept while camping in my life. It is pricey, but completely worth it if one wants to enjoy camping all winter long. Besides, I was able to sleep through the night and good night's sleep makes for a much more fun camping experience.

I have not had a comfortable night camping since the birth of my second child nearly 20 years ago. I cannot roll over without experiencing excruciating pain in my hips. I've tried various mats and air mattresses, but nothing worked. I found this mat on Amazon and decided to give it one last try based on the other reviews. I received my mat two days ago and let it fill for about 36 hours before testing it on concrete. I can roll from side to side with absolutely no pressure on my hips. This mat is well worth the money. For the first time in 20 years, I am actually looking forward to camping with my husband this weekend. Thank you, Exped!

great matt that inflates itself, but I inflated it a bit more with an air pump which made it really comfortable. easy to delay as well. i definitely recommend it!
