4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome deal!, March 2, 2010
This review is from: Expedition 3X Triple Burner Stove
We've camped and cooked for years using an ancient 2 burner Coleman and I'd been wanting to move up to a three burner stove for a very long time...I was sure I wanted the Coleman and was ready to pull the trigger when a friend recommended that I look at a Camp Chef. I was like "Are you sure?," and my friend replied "All I know is that my girlfriends dad likes them so much that he has two of them!"
I happened to find this model last year at Costco for about the same price as it is here. This price is a great deal, plus it comes with the two burner griddle which all by itself is worth seventy bucks. So you're basically getting a great three-burner stove for about a hundred bucks. Sweet deal.
Ok, it is heavy, but that just shows that it's very solidly built. The legs easily assemble with thumbscrews, slide the windscreen in place and screw the propane hose on and you're ready to cook. It comes with a couple of nice little accessories, the paper towel holder and the tool rack. The 30,000 btu burners put out a prodigious amount of heat...maybe too much heat (precise control can be a little dicey, which is why I only gave it four stars). Let's just say that plastic pancake turners may have a shortened life expectancy.
I used the stove all summer and into the winter and it's as good as new. I expect it to last for decades...just like that ancient Coleman that's been retired to the shed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Stove, a pleasure to use., June 1, 2011
This review is from: Expedition 3X Triple Burner Stove
As did Nett, I bought mine at Costco. Don't let the Costco price throw you! I just got back from camping and all I have to say about this stove is it is a great tool to use. In my 50 years of camping I have used many different types of stoves starting with the old white gas Coleman's, then converting them to use 1-pound propane cylinders, then to larger propane tanks. What they all were missing is what this stove provides... Spacious room to COOK!!!

As far as cost this unit as supplied with the extra large two burner griddle (Costco's came with a single burner one) plus the paper towel holder for one side and the tool holder for the other side brings the price of this unit to be comparable. I really liked using the griddle, so now I am considering buying the two burner one ($89). Make sure you have a can to catch the grease, it has a can holder but since I didn't open this stove up until camping I didn't realize it needed one. Oh well the dog enjoyed walking by the stove when not in use licking the leg with bacon grease ;o).

Today I ordered the carrying case without wheels. I considered the one with wheels but I wasn't convinced that the wheels are durable enough made of plastic to last. With the placement of the handles with the roller carrying case if the wheels were to break it would be very hard to carry because of the placement of the handles (Camp Chef please note, I would have bought the more expensive case if you added in addition to the handles on the end, something like suitcase handles or similar to the ones on the less expensive carry bag).

I also do a lot of cooking at home with a pressure cooker to precook ribs and chicken. I finish off on the bbq or oven. I brought the pressure cooker with me and used on the Camp Chef and with the 30,000 btu burners it was a pleasure to use and actually worked better than at home on my electric glass top stove!

Side table might be a nice feature to add later as well. Camp Chef folding legs that other models come with might be nice, but it isn't hard to deal with the legs that come with this unit. Very easy to assemble this stove (5-10 minutes the first time)... Maybe someday I will read the directions ;o) Also a nice feature was they included an open end wrench to hook the propane regulator hose to the stove which was attached to the hose.

I think I will throw a small level into the case with the stove, the unit looked level but the grease in the trap from the griddle did tend to pool towards the the opposite end of the grease drain... Easy fix was to elevate one end. All in all this is a very stable stove with no regrets on my part with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expedition 3x Triple Burner Camp Stove, April 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Great product! The entire stove is well built and very sturdy. We are going to use it for home canning and the stove will hold up for heavy pressure cooker use. Would highly recommend.
