5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible
Whether you have their other albums or not, get this. It was nominated for best live metal album, and rightly so. Kamelot is one of my favorite bands, and this is a collection of some of their best songs. I don't really know what else to say, except buy this. They've got awesome music and lyrics- just listen to Amazon's samples.

1.0 out of 5 stars How NOT to do a live album 101
What a disater! After learning about these guys by buying The Fourth legacy I was thrilled. This band was great. Karma was equally as good and I felt confident buying this live effort. However, after hearing this album (and I made myself listen to it several times to make sure) I will NEVER go see these guys live. To be downright honest, I can't stop laughing every time...

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome performances, insufficient material., October 15, 2001

This review is from: Expedition (Audio CD)
Kamelot has a very bright future ahead of them. Vocalist Roy S. Khan and guitarist Thomas Youngblood are the best songwriters in the genre, and their fourth album, aptly titled The Fourth Legacy, deserved the attention of a live release. That's where The Expedition comes in. It's one of the better live metal albums in terms of "feel." Khan is a lively, spirited frontman with added intensity generated by the live setting, and his interaction with the crowd improves the listener's (illusory) involvement. Even the tepid songs from Siege Perilous ("Millennium," "Expedition") are utterly energizing in this stunning live delivery. Double-bass driven speed metal cuts like "Fourth Legacy" and "Until Kingdom Come" are aflame like they never were on the studio recordings. The beautiful acoustic "A Sailorman's Hymm" becomes a soaring power ballad when Youngblood's power chords electrify the chorus. If rated solely on performances, The Expedition is an awesome live disc worthy of five stars.

Unfortunately, there's not nearly enough live material. Despite having four albums of songs, there's only about 45 minutes of live music here. That's meager. I'm reminded of Spock's Beard's Don't Try This At Home, which was great for live music, but way too short. That same problem tags Kamelot here. At least the three "rare" tracks compensate for this somewhat. "We Three Kings" is an instrumental Christmas tune, "One Day" is a pretty ballad which is soo good because Khan's voice is amazing, and "We Are Not Separate" is an up-tempo metal cut.

All Kamelot fans should have this. It's great to hear the Seige Perilous songs with the intensity they deserve, and "Call of the Sea," from their first album, is about 40 times better than the original (Khan is a better singer than Vanderbilt, of course).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Expedition, October 10, 2000
This review is from: Expedition (Audio CD)
If this album had three discs, it'd be better than Iced Earth's Alive In Athens! There are no flaws to this album at all! Every song is played acceptionally, with no memorable bad solos, or off-key vocals, etc. The three 'rare' tracks at the end are also quite good. We Three Kings sounds a lot like something Savatage/Trans-Siberian Orchestra would do, so that is always a plus to me, since Savatage is one of my favorite bands! If you're already a Kamelot fan, you need to hear this! If you're not a Kamelot fan, this would be a decent introduction! If only bands this good would tour in the U.S.! Some of us americans like metal too, guys! I'm feeling rather deprived! I would have loved to see Kamelot play these songs live!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kamelot are todays true musical explorers!!, September 8, 2001
This review is from: Expedition (Audio CD)
Quick to follow up their epic fantasy The Fourth Legacy, Florida's Kamelot bring the world a peak at their live experience with The Expedition, a collection of treasures recorded along their recent `New Allegiance' European tour. Crisp production by knobmaster Sascha Paeth and a set list that are destined for legendary status, Kamelot transform a simple concert into a sonic journey through the Seven Seas and into your mind, leaving you awakened with a higher level of conscious awareness. The band transports you other worlds while consistently questing for the ultimate evolution, obtaining musical wealth with each progression. Not just a forum to display Kamelot's talents on-stage, The Expedition also includes 3 studio tracks: an epic ode to Christmas entitled "We Three Kings" (giving the Savs in TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA a run for their money), the somber ballad "One Day" (previously only available on the Japanese version of Siége Perilous) and a beefy re-recording of "We Are Not Separate" (original version appears on the band's sophomore release Dominion). So, all in all, a worthwhile adventure, for whenever Kamelot books a charter, you can guarantee they'll bring back riches beyond your wildest imaginations! Kamelot are today's true musical explorers!!

5.0 out of 5 stars musicians that sound even better live. i wish there were more like this!, August 13, 2010
This review is from: Expedition (Audio CD)
where to start....simply put, this album is amazing. the musicianship is excellent, the song writing is top notch and khan's vocals are worlds better than that of his peers. i am a big kamelot fan but i thought their later works were far better than their earlier efforts. this live recording changed my mind. khans voice just soars througout this recording especially on the ballad the Sailorman's Hymn. this is a short album but i believe in quality over quantity and i would pay much more than its current asking price to add this to my music collection. if you are a kamelot fan i suggest you pick this up. if you are a fan of rock music in general you definitely need to give this band some attention.

This review is from: The Expedition: Live (Audio CD)
This is a live CD of the band Kamelot. It includes live tracks of previously released material and three rare tracks entitled "We Three Kings", "One Day", and "We Are Not Separate" none that have been released on any other CD. So if you are looking to complete your collection of their CD's and songs, this CD is a must!!! As always they sound great live or prerecorded.

5.0 out of 5 stars The importance of live albums, February 5, 2007
This review is from: Expedition (Audio CD)
First of all, let me just say that Kamelot is one of the most talented bands to date. Not only are their albums awesome but they sound incredible live. Personally, I discovered Kamelot about four years ago, an unfortunate drawback of living in the U.S., and I was immediately impressed. But, I am a strong believer that if your ablum sounds good but you sound terrible live, I will not consider you a good band. That's what I love about Kamelot, although they sound a little different on their live albums they stay true to their studio albums and actually sound BETTER live. So, in a world of rare true talent, Kamelot is the best of the best and they are worthy of our time and support. Buy this album and you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm scared; I've found a live album I like..., April 30, 2006

In all honesty, I've never understood the allure or see what other people see when a band releases a live album. In essence, you're buying songs you probably already have from the band's studio albums and it's very uncommon, at least in my opinion, for a live version of any given song to surpass its studio counterpart.

Despite the above, this still hasn't stopped from buying a live efforts every once in a while: Edguy's Burning Down the Opera, Hammerfall's One Crimson Night and Freedom Call's Live Invasion are part of CD collection. While these felt like good purchases when I bought them, aside from the few "extras" on the Edguy and Freedom Call discs, they just sit on my CD rack and collect dust. While they are good live efforts in their own right, they lack any quality that wants to make me listen to them on a regular basis.

This string of rather forgetful live albums snapped when I first heard The Expedition. All the live songs sound better than they do on any of the studio albums as the production quality is definitely above that of the studio efforts - even those from the Fourth Legacy. In fact, I've personally forgone even thinking of buying a copy of The Fourth Legacy since all the songs I like from that album are on here in an even more glorious form, though I'm still going to purchase Siege Perilous to go with this and my copy of Karma.

Additionally, this is the only place you'll hear the singer Roy Kahn sing "Call of the Sea" and "We Are Not Separate," two classic tracks from the band's earlier works on which Kahn didn't appear on, not to mention the inclusion of the excellent ballad "One Day," the Japanese bonus from Siege Perilous which essentially eliminates the need to buy an import copy of that album.

On the negative side, some may say that The Expedition lacks any relevant Kamelot material outside of the songs that come from The Fourth Legacy, the album that is more or less seen as the band's breakthrough record, though I'd strongly disagree with such a statement. Personally, there is just something about the older Kamelot albums and music (such as Siege Perilous, The Fourth Legacy and Karma) I like more than their newer works (Epica and The Black Halo). However, even though I'm not nearly as fond of Kamelot's newer material, this album does bring attention to the fact the band really does need to release a new live album as they have released quite a bit of material since 1999-2000. Still, to say that I wouldn't be concerned how such a album would eventually turn out considering the material from Epica and The Black Halo is much more complex than anything heard or played here would be lying.

In the end, if you like Kamelot you should definitely nab this, especially if you like "older" Kamelot more than their newer stuff from Epica and The Black Halo, which is good but just not my cup of tea.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good live, October 10, 2005
This review is from: Expedition (Audio CD)
I don't know why you call this garbage, from just listening to the samples im amazed, the quality of this is really good to so dont be fooled by the poor quality of cdnow.com, I think this canadian is just jealous cause he's never going to see them live, because f&#! canada thats why. Don't let any of these people tell you how this album is, just listen to the samples and beware who you buy them from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Metal has not died!!, January 5, 2001
This review is from: Expedition (Audio CD)
After surroidng myself with old recordings of Iron Maiden, Manowar, Saxon, Fates Warning and the like, because the new "metal" music just doesn't cut it anymore, it is nice to hear bands like Kamelot. This CD, which is the only one from Kamelot that I have (form the time being) is loaded with good live performances, which shownot only the musicianship of the Kamelot members but also a more importante thing: GOOD METAL STILL EXISTS!!.

In can only say that I recomend this to all of you who are looking for music above the average!!
