Great movie, great score,

This score harkens back to the good old days of action film music. Like Jerry Goldsmith in the 1980s, Tyler writes a powerful set of melodies that are exciting and engaging. The scene with Mickey Rourke talking about his regrets "Confession" is a great change up with its melancholy feel. One of my favorite tracks this year. The action from Tyler is fantastic of course. I hope there is a sequel in the works because no one blows stuff up better than Stallone.

We loved the movie, partially due to the great songs that were played throughout. This is what I anticipated when I purchased this soundtrack. There are no vocals, none of the songs we enjoyed, just music. Wouldn't recommend you wasting your dollars.

People, people, people...this is a movie soundtrack not a rewind of songs from days gone by. Yes, it is true that there was a lot more music (with lyrics!) in the movie that really made it cool, like the Credence songs played while in the "Tool Shop" and the Thin Lizzy "Boys are Back" song while on bikes. However, if you did not pay attention to the instrumental pieces in the movie, then you missed part of the depth and emotion of the movie and its characters. Maybe a two-cd collection could be made with both sets of music/songs.I LOVE my cd. I listen to it all of the time. When I hear "The Expendables", I can see in my mind the part of the movie where Lee and I believe Ying Yang run down the hall placing explosives on the columns. I see Barney jerking the plane in a tight turn in "Aerial" to return and reak havoc on the bad guys. I smile each time I hear "Lee and Lacey" as I think about how hard he tries to be romantic and how he just clobbered the idiot trying to play basketBALLS! ;-) And "Confession" brings a warm memory to me as I see Tool telling his troubling story. Brian, please keep making your wonderful music. I learned to know it through Stallone's movies and now I am able to recognize it elsewhere causing me to buy even more of your music! Thank you! (P.S. I cannot get enough of the drums in "The Compound" from Rambo 2008.) And Sly, oh my...I just want to throw away all of the people that have criticized or not recognized your talents. You are the master at telling a story through film and I for one appreciate all of the hard work you throw into each and every movie. Best wishes to you and your family!

This is a terrific soundtrack. The music is pulse-pounding, giving you the exact same adrenaline rush as in the film, if not more. One of the best tracks is "Warriors." Brian Tyler (CBS' new version of "Hawaii Five-0") provides the action-packed musical rush behind the on-screen fun. "Everyone of us is Expendable."

Should have previewed the CD. Nothing but instrumental music. I figured it would have some of the songs played in the movie. Didn't like it.

An Entertaining Action Score That Lacks A Visceral Impact,
By

Sylvester Stallone continues his collaboration with Brian Tyler with The Expendables. This will be Tyler's third score for Stallone as a director except this time it will be for original material. The last two outings were for the Rocky and Rambo franchises so of course Tyler had previous material to draw from. This time around he had a clean canvas. The end result is a decent, but very average action score. The Expendables is pure action entertainment so I wasn't expecting anything more than that in the score. However, pure action scores are the most fun to listen to in my opinion. The action scores of the 90's are what I grew up on, and this score definitely draws on that. The sound of the score is extremely reminiscent of the Zimmer sound of the mid to late 90's. Tyler's score has some great melodies, but I never felt like the score packed any intensity. The reason why Zimmer's scores were so memorable was because they were incredibly intense and were not afraid to take center stage. Traditionalists will argue that a score should never draw attention to itself, and while I agree with that I also feel that these are different circumstances. If I'm watching an over the top action movie then I want an over the top action score. I want the music to explode louder than the sound effects. I want the melodies to shake, rattle and roll. With that being said that is where this score's weaknesses lie. The score is entertaining but lacking any impact on the audience. When it was over I didn't feel like I was taken on a journey. This is an entertaining score, but I just don't ever see myself listening to this score over and over again. It's a decent action effort, but in the end it fails to demand the attention it should have demanded from the beginning.

The title of this should be "background music" - not a "Soundtrack". These are not the songs I wanted to hear when I ordered this CD.

Went to the site all ready to buy the soundtrack because it was so great in this fabulous movie and saw that none of the Creedence Clearwater Revival songs were included. Those songs were the best part of the soundtrack. Needless to say I'm passing on this one.

I was not pleased with the CD. I expexcted the sound track to be what I hear at the movie. The rock and rock songs were not included, I believe this took away from the CD. I was looking mainly on the sound track the vocal lyrics from the movie.
