5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet start to a long and prosperous journey
This being Liams first album, it reflects what he and the other memebers in the band were into at the time - pure, solid rave. It rocks, Out Of Space is excellent. Liam changes the mood of the track time and time again, with pretty raw edges to each change, but he gets away with it. 3.0 out of 5 stars good beats but...
As everyone says, the music is great. I think Fat of the Land pales in comparison. However, some of the sounds and high pitched vocal samples are really annoying. If it wasn't for that, I would listen to this nonstop. In my opinion, Music For the Jilted Generation is their best work.

This being Liams first album, it reflects what he and the other memebers in the band were into at the time - pure, solid rave. It rocks, Out Of Space is excellent. Liam changes the mood of the track time and time again, with pretty raw edges to each change, but he gets away with it. Charly, trip into drum and bass version, has seen nearly all the original lyrics from the cat taken away, probably so people would stop giving the four hassle about being, "The Band That Killed Rave" - which we all know isn't true, no one said anything until the cash-in one hit wonders hit town. Liam Howlett did a great job mixing that one. As with all Liam's albums there is a great variety in his work, from the fairly chilled Weather Experience(in Prodigy terms anyway - indie kids take note, you'll still be blown away with it's speed and power), to the hard beats and raw lyrics in Death Of The Prodigy Dancers. This track is recorded from a live gig, and changed my idea of typical rave bands forever. That should be so though because The Prodigy was not a "Typical Rave Band". Each album has been a new step for the band, with their styles dramatically changing, but the hardness, and technical skill of the music never fluctuates. The album may have been around a few years, but for those of you who are slow to catch on, and still haven't got it, I think it's about time you did, it'll be money well worth spent! Get ready to have your mind blown!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the newer albums, January 16, 2000

Of all the Prodigy albums, I think this is the best, Liam's brilliance in a early stage. If you listen regularly, you'll notice more and more brilliant details in the inspiring and adrenaline giving songs, which unfortunatly is found less in the newer albums. Especially listen to Jericho and Outer Space....

5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining and creative rave music - it's not like "Fat Of The Land" but that won't matter!, January 21, 2006
This review is from: Experience (Audio CD)
I'll admit that I got "Experience" expecting something along the lines of "The Fat Of The Land", and although it's completely different it's still very good. This is the kind of album that will grow on you - I didn't like it at all at first (because I was expecting another "Firestarter" or "Breathe"), but after a while you it grows on you. You start to appreciate the complexity and energy of the music, and it definitely has much of both. It's a rave album first and foremost, but they add so many other interesting elements to the mix that make the songs worthy of both analyzation and of your club or party mix. Rave music that's both fun and creative is indeed a rarity. Every song here is great, but none of them are necessarily memorable or strike you as instantly great like most of the songs on "The Fat Of The Land", but patient listeners won't mind. As is usual with these kinds of albums the electronic blips and bleeps defy description and thus one must simply hear it to get the picture. Overall I think it's a fascinating album that most won't like at first, but if they give it time then it will probably become one of their favorites! Absolutely recommended!

Highlights include:
the entire album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Zany and Crazy, August 30, 2001
This review is from: Experience (Audio CD)
This is an album that you really have to listen to several times before you can really appreciate it. If all you know about Prodigy is Breathe and Firestarter, then you might be disappointed by this album because it is nothing like The Fat of the Land. However, in my mind, that is a good thing. This CD is close to 10 years old and it's still amazing the sound that Liam Howlett creates here. The first 3 tracks are the best especially Jericho and Wind It Up. By the end of the CD, the music gets darker and doesn't seem like anything from the beginning of the album. Highly recommended for fans of the techno/electronica genre. Don't be expecting a Fat of the Land, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Dance Music CD - gets no better than this, March 3, 2005
This review is from: Experience (Audio CD)
I have been an avid fan of dance music (read house, techno, drum and bass, jungle, breakbeat, trance, happy hardcore, etc) since I was 16. I remember listening to the radio one day, 12 years ago, when I heard a song that changed my life eversince. There was something magical about that song, something that was captivating and exhilarating at the same time. The song spoke to me, even if there were no real words in it. I got a blank tape, stuck it in the stereo and pushed "record". Mesmerized, I sat there listening to the song, watching the little wheels in the tape player spin the tape. My passion for dance music started then and it has never died eversince. That song was Prodigy's Charly.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Prodigy is awesome heavy or light, October 19, 1999

After I bought the Hackers soundtrack, I was hooked on Prodigy. So, after buying Music for the Jilted Generation, I was still throughly impressed with them. Somebody told me that this, however, was the best Prodigy album ever so I bought it. What I found, however, was that it was not the Prodigy that I had expected. It's not the dark Prodigy of their other two albums. It's just awesome dance music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good rave collection, October 9, 2001

This sounds nothing like Prodigy's most well-known album, The Fat of the Land. For one thing, there is almost no rapping or singing. It consists of all samples and drum n bass effects. However, that is not a bad thing. This is excellent music to dance or work out to, but you can also sit back and take it in as well. Savvy and stylish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strap yourself in and get ready for a wild ride, March 24, 2001

Let's get one thing clear right now: "Experience" is the Prodigy's most intense CD ever. Not darkest (that would be "Fat Of The Land"). Not most eclectic (for that, buy "Music For The Jilted Generation"). This is the Prodigy at their fastest and most insanely stupid.

It's essentially rave techno, which means it's filled with sound effects, sped-up vocals, old-skool pianos and synth lines, and fast breakbeats. So while it may be annoying, it's also extremely catchy and surprisingly well-composed. My favorite track here is "Out Of Space", but "Jericho", "Charly", "Everybody In The Place", "Fire", and "Ruff In The Jungle Bizness" are also great, and the whole album holds together very well. If you like intense, fast, immature rave music, you need "Experience". And if you don't, this may be the disc that converts you over.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some of The Best Tunes You'll Ever Hear, March 23, 2000
This review is from: Experience (Audio CD)
The only electronica album that can come even close to The Prdoigy Experience is Fat of the Land by the same group. Keith Flint doesn't have his funky hair at this point but that doesn't matter too much. My favourite song off of the album is "Wind It Up" due in no small part to the pumping beats that have been mixed Liam Howlett. You can do a lot worse than to buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD Rules, October 5, 1999

I was a fan when I bought Fat of the Land, but I had yet to truly hear how good the Prodigy was until I bought this CD. I love every song on it. They each have their own unique qualities, but if I had to single out just one song, it would have to be Fire(Sunrise Version). That song, to me, is the absolute best song Prodigy ever did. This CD is a must-have for any fan of techno music. PRODIGY RULES!!!!
