This book is a history of the 2nd New Jersey Cavalry during two years of the Civil War, 1863-65. It is a story told from the point of view of one enlisted man in this regiment, the author's grandfather, Corporal S. Townsend Walmsley. I see this as a great young adult novel with real history through-out! In an age when war tends to be glorified, this book demonstrates the opposite. I knew the author and he was an expert on the Civil War. The fact that his grandfather served and his experiences are the basis of the story as seen through Townsend's eyes adds real drama to the book. I understand the author has a website: [...]
