Book Description

November 1978 0827316607 978-0827316607
Brand new fourth edition! Here's practical guidance for integrating mathematics with art, music, language arts, and other subjects for children birth to age eight. The approaches to teaching math in this book meet the national guidelines set forth by NAEYC and the NCTM. Each chapter guides you through assessment, instructional, and evaluation strategies in a developmentally sequenced format. Plus, readers will love the practical coverage on setting up learning centers and the resource materials on technology, children's books with math concepts, and parental involvement.

Editorial Reviews

Review

I like how each chapter covers naturalistic, informal, and structured experiences to reinforce what is learned at the beginning of the text. It is also very important for preschool teachers to understand the difference of those experiences and know which are more developmentally appropriate for young children. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Math Part From Another Textbook, February 11, 2010

(REAL NAME)
Here's the deal with this book: it's part of another book. Roz Charlesworth has written a SUPERB book that meshes math and science pedagogy and content with smoothness. This book, again, just takes the math sections (which are very well done) of that text to make this stand alone product. For the uninitiated, perhaps this book will be a good fit. On the other hand, once you see the natural efficient connections between math and science, seeing the math section stand by itself like this might leave you a bit empty.

In the end, this book is only worth getting if you DO NOT have Charlesworth's EXPERIENCES IN MATH AND SCIENCE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. With the price of this book compared to that one and with little difference between the two, it might not be worth gettng.

3.0 out of 5 stars not perfectly satisfied, January 23, 2008
Those sayings are not in detail, just say some developmental steps with practical materials. But some intrigued students get to be well.
