5.0 out of 5 stars Me like Experimental Remixes, March 28, 2000

This cd is filled with awesome remixes of the already great Blues Explosion songs. Killah Priest amazed me with his wonderful version of Greyhound, and while we're on the Greyhound remixes I must say that Moby added so much on his version of Greyhound, with his guitar solo and overall texture. Of all of the remix compilations that I have listened to, this was the best. This Cd actually made contributions to the songs instead of just putting a different beat to the song. I still listen to it regularly so that just shows how good it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your average remix CD., September 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Experimental Remixes (Audio CD)
The remixes on this CD are amazing! "Bellbottoms" is transformed by U.N.K.L.E. quite well! Killah Priest was an unusual but well worth addition to "Greyhound." But the star track of the CD is "Flavor part 2," where Beck and Mike D. create something incredible. When you're like me and are a huge fan of Beck, the Beastie Boys, and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, having them all working together on one song, it's almost spiritual! I heard a Beck that I had never heard before. I am a huge fan of this CD; how can I not be?

5.0 out of 5 stars hidden gem for jsbx fans, March 22, 2006
This review is from: Experimental Remixes (Audio CD)
I totally disagree with the negative reviews posted here--this is NOT a throwaway album but in fact represents some of Spencer and crew's best work. The remix of "Flavor" with Beck and Mike Diamond is great, and so is Killah Priest's rap at the end of "Greyhound Part II." The UNKLE remix of "Bellbottoms" is also really good. If you can only afford one JSBX album then get Orange and then steal this one from a used CD store.

Basically, the John Spencer Blues Explosion was an exercise in postmodern fragmentation and musical recycling, and so it somehow makes sense that remixes make up some of their best work (I also like the Acme remixes better than the actual album), especially because they have such great musicians re-interpreting their work. I don't imagined that anyone slaved away in the studio for days trying to get an absolutely perfect mix, but again that's another reason why I love this record--it's just that much more punk rock. Spencer tends to get in more trouble when he's trying to get a perfectly polished sound.

Oh yeah, and the picture on the inside cover of the boys eating at some greasy spoon is priceless.
