Me like Experimental Remixes,

This cd is filled with awesome remixes of the already great Blues Explosion songs. Killah Priest amazed me with his wonderful version of Greyhound, and while we're on the Greyhound remixes I must say that Moby added so much on his version of Greyhound, with his guitar solo and overall texture. Of all of the remix compilations that I have listened to, this was the best. This Cd actually made contributions to the songs instead of just putting a different beat to the song. I still listen to it regularly so that just shows how good it is.

Not your average remix CD.,

The remixes on this CD are amazing! "Bellbottoms" is transformed by U.N.K.L.E. quite well! Killah Priest was an unusual but well worth addition to "Greyhound." But the star track of the CD is "Flavor part 2," where Beck and Mike D. create something incredible. When you're like me and are a huge fan of Beck, the Beastie Boys, and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, having them all working together on one song, it's almost spiritual! I heard a Beck that I had never heard before. I am a huge fan of this CD; how can I not be?

hidden gem for jsbx fans,

I totally disagree with the negative reviews posted here--this is NOT a throwaway album but in fact represents some of Spencer and crew's best work. The remix of "Flavor" with Beck and Mike Diamond is great, and so is Killah Priest's rap at the end of "Greyhound Part II." The UNKLE remix of "Bellbottoms" is also really good. If you can only afford one JSBX album then get Orange and then steal this one from a used CD store.
Basically, the John Spencer Blues Explosion was an exercise in postmodern fragmentation and musical recycling, and so it somehow makes sense that remixes make up some of their best work (I also like the Acme remixes better than the actual album), especially because they have such great musicians re-interpreting their work. I don't imagined that anyone slaved away in the studio for days trying to get an absolutely perfect mix, but again that's another reason why I love this record--it's just that much more punk rock. Spencer tends to get in more trouble when he's trying to get a perfectly polished sound. Oh yeah, and the picture on the inside cover of the boys eating at some greasy spoon is priceless.

One of the best albums of the 90's,

This little gem is a true musical journey. The base material of the CD is the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, which is sort of a mixture of punk, rockabilly and blues - think Elvis meets the Sex Pistols. That alone would make a great CD, but this album is a remix which tells a sort of story. The remixes are done in many styles (from "alternative" to old style blues to hip hop) featuring guests like Beck and Killah Priest of the Wu-Tang Clan. Don't let the "remix" title fool you - this isn't Disco Star Wars, but more a case of taking the ball and running with it. The final product feels like an amazing live concert packed with a ton of energy.

Not conventional, but great,

This was the first album I bought from the JSBX, adn I will never regret this for the rest of my life. This album has a nice but raw sound and is loaded with laughter. If you wish to experience the magic groups have on tour, you must buy this album.

Crap--except for the brilliant Greyhounds!,

Take away tracks 5 and 6, and JSB have no right to charge people money for this rehashed bunch of goofing off in the studio. BUT, tracks 5 and 6--the Greyhounds--are so staggeringly beautiful and inspired, that they more than salvage the e.p. With the Greyhounds running, this e.p. makes for an essential part of my collection. You'd have to bite me really hard to get me to let go of this cd.

As much as I hate to admit it (being a die-hard JSBX fan) this album was a major disappointment. "Experimental Remixes" isn't anywhere near the standards of the ordinary JSBX- albums. Sure, the title says it's an experiment- and it sounds like it- but the result is a collection of extremely dull versions of songs from the "Orange" album. There is NOTHING left of the raw power from the Blues Explosion, not even Beck's versions of "Flavor" makes any impact- they are, just like the rest of this frustratingly bad album, pale immitations! Don't waste your money- if you like me just can't get enough Blues Explosion I suggest you buy "Orange" twice!!!
