Madsen's writing is enjoyable and easy to read. The man clearly loves research and his enthusiasm is infectious. This is a good book for getting students excited about the world of music research. Providing an overview of issues relating to research, it is an outstanding introductory book, but would not be of great use to seasoned researchers.
