Good Instructional Strategies,

This review is from: Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI): The Power of the Well-Crafted, Well-Taught Lesson (Paperback)
Most of the schools in our county are adopting Direct Instruction as a sound instructional strategy. We have found good results from the teachers that are implementing it properly. We have seen other people from other schools using it and talking about the strategy, however, I did not totally understand the nuts and bolts until I read this book.
If you are trying to perfect your craft, or you are a coach helping to get your school on board, this is the book for you.

I was shocked by how much I loved this book! It's not necessarily new information, but this book tells you WHAT to do, WHY to do it, and examples of HOW to do it by giving examples in all content areas and levels. There is specific dialogue teachers can use in elementary, middle, and high school classrooms. I'm a secondary math person, but many of the strategies used in other areas can be used in any situation. This book is practical and not overly theoretical. Best of all, the book explains how everything fits together in a well-planned lesson; from the Lesson Objective, to activating prior knowledge and questioning, to independent practice and closure, it links it all together. As a teacher and out-of-classroom coach, I highly recommend this book to all my fellow educators!

A must for teachers wanting to learn how to teach using explicit instruction. This book is very thorough and understandable. It includes a keyword TAPPLE (or T-APPLE) which is a mnemonic for remembering how to teach using explicit direct instruction. I found it indispensable.

This book helped me get the buzz words under my belt for an upcoming interview at a nearby middle school. One can appreciate the amount of research and examples presented by the authors in their easy flowing style.

This book was very easy to read and very easy to apply to my teaching. It taught concepts, then provided examples of what it looked like in various classrooms. It was worth every penny to buy.
