beautiful background & holds up to intense listening..., September 25, 2002

OK--acoustic guitar and oboe--you got unavoidable associations with Ralph Towner and Paul McCandless. But hey, that's pretty good company. This CD works as beautiful background music, but it also holds up to intense, critical listening. Put it on during dinner or late at night--it's like a fire on a cold night: It spreads a warm glow throughout the room. It doesn't demand rapt attention, but all of sudden you find yourself drifting into its hold. David's guitar playing is technically expert and always musical; Jill plays "inside" the guitar--her oboe and english horn bringing out the sweet melodies that seem to naturally evolve from the compositions. There's a lot of love in this music and that's not a bad thing these days.
