5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely BRILLIANT!!
I can't believe how good this record is. Being the first G.L.J. cd I've ever purchased I'm an instant FANATIC!
This record is passionate, literate and beautifully executed!
The VOICE is so emotional.
5 stars don't do it justice!!

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT GLJ

Great, fine, but it IS NOT Gene Loves Jezebel. If you are new to this band, BEWARE! Michael Aston quit GLJ after several albums, leaving the rest of the band, including his brother, singer Jay Aston, to carry on without him. And they carried on without him to greater commercial success. Then, after the real GLJ released 3 albums without him, he decides to form a new band and also call themselves Gene Loves Jezebel, even though the REAL GLJ were still going!!! Confused? So are a lot of people, most of all Michael Aston himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST GLJ ALBUM YET, March 16, 2006
This review is from: Exploding Girls (Audio CD)
First off, this is a great release. I really feel it is the best GLJ yet. It's a very solid cd and all tracks are pleasing.

I have to comment now about a nasty review I just read here regarding this release. I am always offended and perplexed when I read reviews and someone refers to an older band or band member being "washed up" or a "loser". Why do we only love when musicians are at their highest and "popular"?

Michael Aston has an outstanding voice and enormous talent. Whether you like his music or not I don't think it's fair to call someone "washed up" or a "loser" because you don't like their current release or because they aren't on Billboard's Top 100. Just say you didn't like the cd. Geez.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Stirring & Passionate Album, September 18, 2003

Frontman Michael Aston has made a true masterpiece with this album. Both lyrics & music are now on a level you can expect from a major act as for instance U2. Michael's voice is becoming stronger than ever!
If you're a fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers or U2: don't miss this classic Gene Loves Jezebel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exploding Girls - is rated simply the best, September 27, 2003

After all this waiting, we fianlly got to see the return of micheal aston`s Gene loves Jezebel, a man dedicated to his music& he confirmed what fans already know, he is & will be truly and simply the best of all of them.
His latest album is indeed a rare challenge - I was taken & shaken, I felt a chill which was electricnizing my whole body, his tunes were so affectionate what gave me the urge to dance.
A voice, which god created it is not from this planet. His political lyrics are maybe not everybody`s view but you shouldnt be bothered by - it is a free country! And of course he didnt forgot us - us women in his songs, there were dedicated to all of us. I was deeply moved, when listening to his new accomplishment. The first song "Exploding Girls",is a great song which hits you right there where it hurts..with their melodic, passionate new modern rock sound - this is the real deal. The guitar chores are played admirably by Micheal Cirula with Pano on Bass and Mike Brahm pounding the drums. Those guys are highly energetic and a lot of fun.It is a must for everybody who enjoys real music !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Album, February 26, 2004

Michael Aston is the real deal and has three millenial albums that generously display his vocal talent and songwriting prowess. The first rate band and political / gender based lyrical content set this latest album, Exploding Girls, apart (not above) from the previous two. If you like the more shamanic, punk, trancey vocal style of early GLJ ("Promise", "Immigrant") then you probably like Michael Aston. All three records are amazing and Michael and his men are top shelf live. Lovely song "Jenin" about a Palestinian refugee town, gets stuck in my head of late. HAIL!

5.0 out of 5 stars CD of the YEAR!, September 21, 2003

This Cd is something Fascinating.."Exploding",if you will! When I first played it,I was taken aback at how colorfull, how rich and unusual this one was,Ive been following this band for years and this one sure stretches the limit of any notion of what Gene Loves Jezebel is "supposed "to be or sound like. All the various rythims ,sounds were quite a suprise.....imaginative,emotional, passionate. Each song is a story,This albums theme is that of woman and of politics. My two faverites:(go above to listen!!!)Exploding Girl (1 track)is powerfull and energizing and makes you want to jump all around, and 3)Downhill both ways.Beutifull song!a very sensual rythim..aire makes me want to fly....a great single that, blue mary, very tribal ,IMPOSSIBLE not to dance to that one. This is a very special one.:).10 stars SO THERE!
