Editorial Reviews

Michael Paoletta, Billboard Magazine

"...Blow-Up bring a smile to the face and a twitch to the soles of the feet."

Product Description

BLOW-UP blend modern electronic rhythmic rawness in their production style, with vintage pop sensability in their song writing. Guest performances on Exploding Plastic Pleasure, include the vocals of the legendary Deborah Harry of Blondie, the street smart and always controversial spoken word chanteuse Lydia Lunch, and the late Dee Dee Ramone of The Ramones. This US debut album, Exploding Plastic Pleasure by BLOW-UP is packed with amazing tracks and is definitely a "must hear". Exploding Plastic Pleasure, by Blow-Up, is an instant electroclash party staple.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, June 12, 2003

This album is excellent. I first found out about it in a Billboard Magazine's album review section. My favorite tracks are "Fly With Me", "Uncontrollable Love", and "You Don't Love Me", but I have to really say I enjoy all the songs a lot. The guys in the band have really cool voices, and it's really cool that they have star guests like Lydia Lunch and Deborah Harry doing songs with them on the album too. Very cool. I highly recommend this album.

Once I learned of Deborah Harry's contribution on Blow-Up's CD, I HAD to get it. Not only is Harry's track outstanding, but I enjoyed the rest of the CD as well. Blow-Up has distilled all the elements of '80s dance and repackaged it for the millenium. It's like Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk and Mirwais Ahmadzai spent the weeknend together and "Exploding Plastic Pleasure" is the result. "Can't Make Me Do That," "(I Was a) Male Stripper," and "You Don't Love..." are all infectious tunes. The CDs moneyshot, though, is Harry's "Uncontrollable Love." It's without a doubt one of Harry's best dance songs, sounding like a hybrid of Grace Jones' "I'm Not Perfect" and Harry's own "In Love with Love." While some of the tracks on this CD have somewhat sparse production, "Uncontrollable Love" is richly layered with a forceful beat holding it together. A remix of the song is featured on the final track, adding a few more of Harry's seductive and ethereal "ah-ahs" and upping the tempo (I'm partial to the original version, though). Lydia Lunch's saucy "On the Prowl" is fun, though the accompanying synthesizer is so cheesy it should be served with pepperoni. Blow-Up's one misstep is its re-make of Human League's "Don't You Want Me." Sounding as if it were recorded by Falco before he dropped dead and re-mixed by someone with ADD (complete with squeaky Casio flourishes), Blow-Up's version only makes you wish they quit while they were ahead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Electronica., July 26, 2003

This cd was released to most countries on the EMI label but for the US market on the smaller Electrovenus Records. The mastermind behind the cd is Paolo Cillone & Claudio Camaione and they do a fine job of making this a killer collection. The main reason for my buying this cd was the track "Uncontrollable Love" with featured vocals by GOD herself Ms. Deborah Harry. The track which comes in the original and even better FR/Action Remix (5:34) are what Daft Punk would kill to be making. Debbie kicks ... as usual. Then you get the very sexual track "On The Prowl" that features raunch queen Lydia Lunch. Plus you get a weird remake of "Don't You Want Me","Nacht Des Leguans" which a tribute to Iggy Pop,the gay themed "Fly With Me","Go With a Bang" ,"Hurt Me" and "You Can't Make Me Do That" which was written by the late Dee Dee Ramone as killer tracks. The cover of this cd is bound to get attention but hopefully so will the music. BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!
