This review is from: Explore! Glacier National Park and Montana's Flathead Valley (Exploring Series) (Paperback)
I found that this book provides much additional information about Glacier National Park and the surrounding Flathead Valley that I was not able to find in other books. For example, I was very pleased to read about hiking the Jewel Basin, and now knowing how to get there, with some trail descriptions. And I learned more about activites on Flathead Lake.
The book briefly describes different outdoor activities available in the area, such as biking, fishing, boating, skiing, hunting, kayaking, and floating, although in a brief form; not thoroughly extensive. There is lots of information on hiking, but I require another hiking book for more details. It also provides educational information on wildlife, fires, ecology, and history. It is NOT an information guide for lodging and dining. Combined together with the Insiders Guide to Glacier National Park and the Hiking Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks Falcon Guide, I think Explore Glacier National Park helps make a complete set of a wide range of information.

Disappointing,
This review is from: Explore! Glacier National Park and Montana's Flathead Valley (Exploring Series) (Paperback)
After finding great books on Banff and Jasper National Parks, this book was a major disappointment. The book should probably have been called Montana's Flathead Valley with a brief overview of Glacier NP. If you're planning to visit the area, this book does not have enough detail or information on Glacier or Flathead Valley to be of value. You can get more information with a quick Google. Also, this book is pretty stale. Although it has a recent copyright date, most of the pictures date from the 70's. Bottom line, save your money and look for a different book. I'm returning my copy to Amazon for a refund.

Very basic and broad overview,
This review is from: Explore! Glacier National Park and Montana's Flathead Valley (Exploring Series) (Paperback)
If you are looking for a book that is an overview of the Glacier National Park area, this could be the book for you, but I was very dissapointed. At least half of the book is not even about Glacier, which is fine, but I was not expecting that after reading the title and thumbing through a few chapters.
The details of hikes, campgrounds, and activities are slim. The book generally consists of an overview and author's personal story about regions of the park, and then VERY briefly list a few hikes in the area. I have done better researching this park on the internet than this book could ever provide. I wanted something to read on my plane ride to Glacier, so I'm going to return this and try another book about the park. |
