Great children's bible!, September 29, 2007
I began shopping for bibles for my young children and became dismayed at all the "kiddie" bible gimmicks, with poor and / or incomplete translations, etc. Although there is value in having a bible that feels right to a child, it is certainly error to place too much emphasis upon these things and not give enough emphasis where it belongs - upon the Word of God that alone has the power to heal, redeem and save.
I love these little bibles! The New King James text appears in its entirety, and many of the usual memory verses are highlighted. There are frequent "digging in" notes appearing at the bottom of the pages - just like an adult study bible, and these notes are both conservative and correct (as far as I have been able to discern).
This bible has frequent "call outs" on the pages. These will sometimes have headings in a different color of text and are used to summarize the life and character of major persons in the sacred text. For example, Naomi, Ruth's mother-in-law is discussed in one such call out. This call out teaches the meaning of Naomi's name ("pleasant") and why she wanted to be called "Mara" (bitter). The same call out discusses briefly Naomi's husband, sons and two daughters-in-law. Ruth has her own call out on the first page of the book of Ruth.
There are black-and-white photographs of interesting places and archaeological findings in the Holy Land. There are frequent, shaded, black-line drawings. These drawings are rendered more real -- not "cartoony." No ridiculous big noses and clown feet. The paper is similar to the paper in your telephone book, but a little heavier. It has no sheen and the type is large and easy to read.
This is a real bible, a complete bible, but very friendly to the young child. It has just enough in the way of pictures and colors to make it fun and approachable without being obnoxious.

The Explorer's Bible for Kids, October 12, 2008
This review is from: The Explorer's Bible for Kids: Explore and Live God's Word (Nkjv) (Hardcover)
This is an excellent product! I bought it for my 9 year old son and he loves it. He was ready to graduate from a "little kids" Bible to something a little more mature and this was the perfect choice. There is still plenty of extras that capture his attention and help him to understand what he is reading but gives him the feel of more of a "study Bible". He considers this Bible to be more grown up and loves reading it and taking it to church. Highly reommended!

Great Study Bible for Children, November 27, 2007
This review is from: The Explorer's Bible for Kids: Explore and Live God's Word (Nkjv) (Hardcover)
My child loved this bible until it was misplaced. He read it all the time because of the fun facts in it. If your child likes to discover new things and is challenged in reading the Bible this may encourage them to read it more especially if they like to discover things. The fun facts in this Bible are written as if the Bible characters are speaking to the child encouraging a dialogue with the parent or guardian and certainly a closer more personal walk with God. My child was 7 when I bought it the first time and will be getting the replacement very soon.
