5.0 out of 5 stars A fun read
The author delivers a fun read about sibling rivalry and being a newlywed. It was a interesting peek into the comic book world. The brothers' banter is witty and entertaining. The main character's banter with his new wife is just a tad racy in that fun sort of way. A good light read with a satisfying ending.

Overall - 2 3/4

Plot/Storyline - 2
I chose to read Explorers of the Unknown because I had read and enjoyed several of Krumbine's other books - sadly, I recommend you do the same. While this book isn't exactly bad, it doesn't compare to his other, far better, ones. If you asked me what the storyline was I'd be almost hard pressed to tell you. It was about...

3.0 out of 5 stars 2 3/4 starts from Red Adept Reviews, January 6, 2012

Overall - 2 3/4

Plot/Storyline - 2
I chose to read Explorers of the Unknown because I had read and enjoyed several of Krumbine's other books - sadly, I recommend you do the same. While this book isn't exactly bad, it doesn't compare to his other, far better, ones. If you asked me what the storyline was I'd be almost hard pressed to tell you. It was about 2 brothers who write a comic series. That's about it. They didn't really do much. There wasn't any build up to anything. There was just a lot of talk. Much of that talk was well written and fun, but it was just talk. I kept wondering when we were going to get to the point and just when I thought it was going to have something happen it ended abruptly. I highly recommend you try a Krumbine book, he's very worth it, just not this one.

Character Development - 3
The characters in this book are fun and if he had them doing almost anything at all I would have enjoyed them more. Again, a big let down compared to his other books. Everyone was pleasant, very believable, and I enjoyed my time with them, but they were just a bit too average to make a good book on their own without more plot to keep them moving. He did a great job with his character interactions, I especially enjoyed those between the two brothers, but they needed more to interact over.

Writing Style - 3
I very much like Krumbine's writing style. He's fun, playful, and witty, with a great sense humor. His characters always have me laughing. His style suits his characters - quick and spunky. He does a good job with descriptions and he does it in such a way that you just absorb and picture them rather than noticing the words used. The characters have distinctive voices and the conversations and interactions are easily the best part of this book.

Editing - 2 ½
There were a few editing issues, my favorite being some serious spelling (or a complete lack of knowledge) problems. Do you think a "demin skirt" (used in at least 3 spots) is a demonically possessed denim skirt? The good thing for me is that the spelling errors were so bad they made me laugh, though one would still hope they might be fixed at some point.
