From the Inside Flap

For boaters of all kinds a handy guide to the waterways of the Mississippi Gulf Coast

About the Author

Scott B. Williams, an experienced sailor and sea kayaker, has published numerous magazine articles on the joys of kayaking.

More About the Author

Scott B. Williams is a writer with a passion for adventure. He draws on his extensive experiences as a sea kayaker, small boat sailor, boatbuilder and wilderness traveler to craft his works of fiction and nonfiction. He began writing about his long solo journeys in 1990, after spending the better part of two years sea kayaking alone from Florida through the islands of the Caribbean. The narrative of that kayak trip became his second book: On Island Time: Kayaking the Caribbean, published by University Press of Mississippi in 2005. In 2009, he began work on a series of survival nonfiction books for Ulysses Press, of Berkeley, California, and his bestselling Bug Out: The Complete Plan for Escaping a Catastrophic Disaster Before It's Too Late, was released in June, 2010. In 2011, Ulysses Press published Getting Out Alive: 13 Deadly Scenarios and How Others Survived, and Bug Out Vehicles and Shelters: Build and Outfit Your Life-Saving Escape. Williams' next book was his first novel, a post-Apocalyptic story built around a scenario in which massive solar flares destroy the power and communication grid in North America. The Pulse: A Novel of Surviving the Collapse of the Grid, was released by Ulysses Press in July, 2012. In 2013, his second novel, The Darkness After, was released as a parallel young adult story based on the scenario in The Pulse. His most recent nonfiction book, The Prepper's Workbook, coauthored with Scott Finazzo, was released in March, 2014, and Refuge, the first sequel to The Pulse is scheduled for a summer, 2014 release. this is a fine book with much helpful info, however it needs an update since the hurricane left much of the data obsolete.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful By Jim Cleveland on May 29, 2004
Format: Paperback
This is a thoroughly researched and very comprehensive guide to Mississippi's extensive coastal waterways, including detailed descriptions of Horn, Cat and the other offshore islands, with authoritative recommendations for boating, camping, and exploring. The author enriches the book with stories and anecdotes from his many waterways adventures and interesting people he has met. There are also significant details about the area's history, many photographs and an annotated map of the coastal region. Williams' book will be a timeless classic.
